The 6 is not as desirable as the 12.
Not sure that I entirely agree with this. The 6 is cheaper and easier to maintain and thus is likely to be have better looked after than the 12. Not really an issue if you are going to restore, but something to consider if looking for something that is good to go.

S
Not many of them are good to go haha anyone that has a cheap one is just driving around in blissful ignorance at what lies beneath. The MPG of the 6 isn't much better In the real world

Erm, I may have missed the trick here, but how well can you see those indicators at night?

So many of the modern little cars seem have indicators ridiculously close to their headlights, and you just can't see them.

Other than that, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

The whole of the inner light units will be indicators rather than lights as you don't need quad lamps at 5000k xenon so should be very visible. More so than tiny units stuck under the bumper!

Project is now suffering delays waiting for the paint shop as I missed my original slot due to the bodywork taking longer than planned

I think the all red light are a winner

Starting to feel like there is an almighty large project design group for this car hehe
Really enjoying this thread. Love where the car is going.

I once worked at (what was then) one of the oldest Jaguar garages in England. Always loved it when one of these broke up the monotony of the x-types and XFs.

Anyway, the red lights: good idea but don't do the whole. Leave the whites at the bottom, more useful and looks smarter.

Interesting idea. I will mock that up when the time comes and take a decision cheers

I think it's because everyone is so excited almost to the point of jealousy about a tweaked-to-survive XJC.

In black.

I'd love one of these http://beacham.co.nz/beacham-mk2/ but they're a tad pricey.

There are probably more Beachams on the road than XJCs.

I meant building your own makes more sense than buying a Beacham.

I missed my slot because of the amount of metal work I had to do. Waiting is a killer

The lower grille matches too. Looks awesome and should really modernise the front end with the new lights and the over-riders removed from the bumper.

Nice progress craigjim thumbup

I've just had a quick re-skim of the thread and am now having silly / naughty thoughts about my early S2 XJ. I put it up for sale a few weeks ago but I'm being mucked about something chronic, I keep looking at it and thinking how I could improve, modify and upgrade it in similar fashion to your Coupe. Watching JD Classics youtube clips isn't helping either, they've done some incredible things to Mk2s in recent years, very pricey but clever stuff. I wish I had the budget to do my car justice, I suppose I'm at a bit of a crossroads with it after just two years of ownership.

Looking forward to the next instalment of the XJC-athon!

Im hoping the next instalment will be paint!
Can then get on with fitting new grille, the new lights, remade bumpers without over riders and new mirrors, red tail cluster and maybe the new wheels so from the outside it looks complete. Still loads to do though!

My old 4.2 coupe on 18's. Originally I was looking at 19's from an xj r but couldn't find 4 9j fronts wheels. These 18's are 9jx18 rears and 8jx18 fronts. The rear arches had the lips folded back for clearance using 235 40 18 tyres. The front wheels have 225 40 18 tyres and arches are totally standard with no clearance issues smile I was thinking of repainting my car mid grey and red leather. Maybe just keep it standard for the time being
