If you're looking at option 5, take a look at the e-rod package from Chevy. Its what I bought (6.2, 430HP) and it comes pretty much plug and play. All the other bits like belt drive/ pulleys, etc. can come from chevy too. I bought the engine and gearbox (TR6060) as one package but it also comes in automatic configuration.
That is exactly what I would do. Where did you buy it from?

OK so.... the third gear ratio of the current box is 1.00. The GM700 box has a 4th gear of 0.70. Does that mean crudely that when at 80mph for instance the current box means the car is doing 2800RPM that the 4th gear of the newer box would reduce the revs by 30% so down to 1960RPM at the same speed and a 30% fuel efficient at that point meaning 15MPG becomes 19.5?

Direct from Chevy but then again I was in the US at the time. You just go to your local large Chevy dealer and order it as a part from the parts group.

Don't even THINK of a V8 swap! Total downgrade... keep the V12, apply upgrades as necessary (7 litre?), maybe stick in a later 4-speed auto... maybe even one of the 4L80E 6-speed boxes that are now available...

Quote from the comments on the Jalopnik article on that LS-swapped XJC - "Neither count thou eight cylinders, except that thou proceedeth to twelve"!

Very cool that they do such a complete package for emissions-controlled scenarios.

I would just change the diff to a lazy xjs ratio if you simply want lower revs in top gear. The maths above won't give a 30% increase in fuel consumption but may improve due to less revs at that given speed but, the coupe isn't streamlined at speed. Imagine all that air straight through that big grill and hitting the upright bulkhead lol and the fact its fuelling every 30 degrees of crank rotation smile.
The Chevy combo may seem better on fuel but those are figures are based on a streamlined car not a series 2 XJC.
If you fancy big power, consider a skyline twin turbo engine. It's a strong straight six and lots of potential. Cheaper to achieve as its already a turbo charged engine.
Food for thought perhaps? Not for the purist though lol

Well I could of earned money on that response smile
Track down and fit a pair of twin cam heads for the v12. There was an American xjc with them fitted. Rocking horse poo maybe easier to find though :s

Twin-cam heads - Walkinshaw came up with a set based on the AJ16 head (the SOHC AJ6 is basically half the V12). They're very rare, only a handful ever made, and they're just not worth the expense, especially as, although you can use one AJ16 head, the other one has to be cast and machined from scratch. You can do more with the SOHC heads.

There is a v12 XJS in Australia with twin Garrett turbos laying down 610bhp. Wonder what your 0-60 would be if that was in the XJC

Jag also made quad cam heads earlier on. They are the ones I was thinking of

You probably don't have room for the supercharger now though.

I should have found this long before you got to the paint stage smile
