Is the 5.7 only 240 bhp? Surprised it is such a low output. It is still a cool car though.
Power output varies on year. But remember this was the 1980's. BMW's and Jags of this era would have been making more like 120-200hp. And the Corvette is pretty easy to tweak for more power. And would have also been making 300lb ft torque most likely.
Fair point, a hot hatch with a giant 100 bhp was considered quick.

A Mercedes 560SEC was only about 260 or 270 horsepower, wasn't it?

Something around that. And maybe double the price.

I like these, be careful though, a mate had one, booted it in a straight line, it slewed sideways, smacked the kerb and he banged his head on the A pillar or roof, he managed to control it long enough to bring it to a halt, he then passed out, pretty bad concussion and a ruined wheel but otherwise no harm done.

Big torque, not that heavy, rwd and no driver aids.

Holy st, that is a lovely looking motor Felix.

I was a big fan of your old 924 Turbo, so looking forward to reading more about your 'vette.

So 80's it hurts....and I love it!!

'MURICA

Waiting on the rest of my suspension parts to turn up, getting lots of new things. Moog NASCAR spec, so it'll turn left all the time. Still, a 50% improvement laugh

Just shopping for the dishiest rims I can find now.

Lovely. Agree with all the comments so far.

I owned a C6 Z06 for a while. You'll get used to people saying "I bet that's thirsty mate" or assuming that the car can't handle. Mine was more economical than an Impreza and handled like a go-kart and I wouldn't be surprised if yours is the same (or can be tweaked that way).

Awesome. Mucho respect for braving an 80's Muscle car. Love the colour!!

I'd be tempted to keep the wheels, it's not like they are small / narrow or ugly.

The HP was never a big point for American muscle, it was torque - get away from the lights and leave an '11'. This C4 is the epitome of that - the perfect off the lights racer.

The corvette was low on HP compared to Euro cars. an M70 from 1988 was around 300 hp, an equivalent sized jag engine would have been a V12 and around 280 -290 hp but as I've said that wasn't the point.

Good effort sir. Reminds me of myself in my younger days. My first yank was a 1977 Firebird Formula 400 (6.6 litre) bought when I was 20. I had to sell it about 8 months later because I couldn't afford to run it but that's not the point.

Enjoyed reading this thread. Must have missed it originally.

Greetings from a fellow Vette owner.

Had my 2001 Z06 for nine years now. Previously had a 94 LT1 with the same six speed. Owned it from age 26 too. So i expect i will probably always be with a Vette now!

Really recommend fitting a 1-4 skip shift delete, if you've not already. I did it to both of mine, almost immediately.

Nice.
How many miles ?
Does it have orange indicators ?
How much did you give for it (if you don't mind saying) ?
A beautiful car, and looking at how you're progressi with it, this will be a stunner. Personally, I'd keep the standard wheels, just have the best rubber on them, and the best brake and suspension set-up that will fit but leave it looking standard.
Just as an aside, I think the idea of wiring the indicators up to the number plates lughts is perhaps folly; a VOSA check (especially if they are accompanied by Plod) could leave you with a prohibition notice, if they know their stuff.
Indicators must be within 400mm of the side of the vehicle, and the angle of visibility must be 80 degrees outwards and 45 inwards (yep, I used to accompany VOSA..)
Just don't want you to run the risk of falling foul of them, it's a lovely car, of which I'm jealous. Very!!!

Thanks for the comments all, it was a surprise to see it as Readers Ride of the week!

I do find myself lusting after other Corvettes now! I'm not a fan of how the C5 looks, apart from the Z06 with the notchback. I could see myself with a C6 in a few years though, hopefully mine will be worth a bit more and those a bit less tongue out

In all the excitement I've managed to win some wheels on ebay.de Happily they're the same size as my stock ones, so I'll just swap the expensive tyres over. Offset is a little different but they should fill the arches nicely once it's lowered. It'll be good to see the brakes too, there's 13in discs hiding under there.

The car is booked in with my mechanic at the end of the month so it should soon reappear looking just how I want it! Will slow down on the parts spree then and have a summer of cruising around smile

I'm off to Bicester Heritage tomorrow for the Sunday Scramble if anyone else is coming along?
