That 5L auto is going to be anything but economical! Interesting though.

What a barge-ing! [sorry..)

I can't believe no one has asked for first dibs when you sell it. Once you've fixed all the little niggles, and sell it in 3 months time, it's still going to have 9 months MOT left, so I'm sure you could make a little on top.

Well, I've just completed an 80 mile trip in in and nothing has broken or fallen off! smile

For a 2 tonne plus car it's pretty quick, it doesn't feel it but the speedo spins round nicely. It feels like I'll never stop finding gadgets that it has!

It's range computer which I assume is based on its lifetime average works out at just over 22mpg which isn't the end of the world by any means.

The offers have been piling in for it already so I feel I've done ok with it.

It does have air suspension that works perfectly, stiffens up and moves the car up and down no problem.

It's actually a very handsome car especially at night.

I texted the seller about this maybe 2.5 weeks ago - but it was the night before he was going offshore and he didn't have the v5 for it. Looks like it would have been worth a punt.

Shocking amount of car for money!!!
Really is. Verging on the obscene! What would the 1st owner have paid? I bet your average non petrol head would guess the price would include a zero at the end.

Check the air filters.

S classes foul the filters REALLY quickly.

Lovely cars though

That is a splendid car for the money. My best mates Dad had a slightly later S350 which was always lovely to ride in. Be fantastic with a V8 in it.

What would the first owner have lost in depreciation in the first year of ownership. Probably enough to buy a decent hatchback new nowadays.

This thread feels very deja-vu, wasn't there an S-Class thread before, the owner fixed the sill rust under the drivers door with a dab of hammerite.

That is an epic barge. I also love the man maths mentality that it's actually no different to the money spent on a lease car for 3/4 months. That's why I love old, well specced and fast cars for under £2k.

I'm sure you won't be short of interest for it when you get rid OP.

If you haven't had any messages about it already (I did try to PM but didn't notice the button for it, so assume you've got them disabled) then I'd like to stick my name in the hat for next owner! Would be a great car to drive down to Le Mans for in June!

PM's should be working, I've had plenty! wink

I've still not decided what to do with it yet as there has been a fair few offers but if I decide to keep it and have another car available I'm more than happy to let you have it for a few weeks to take to Le Mans if that is all you wanted it for.

No hammerite here thankfully smile

No rust either that I can see, jacking points and everything look great if not a bit dirty. A lot easier to clean than weld though for sure!

Base price was £57k for an S500, plus options of course. These things are astonishingly cheap, in less than 15 years it has lost at least £56k in value, or almost £4k a year - that's a new Dacia Sandero every 18 months before you even start on the running costs...

I used to get picked up from Dublin Airport in one, felt huuge inside and very comfy

Driver used to call it with a Irish accent a GRRRRRANNNNNNNDDDD car.....

...in that every time it went near a garage it cost at least a grand!

For £900 you got a great buy!

Great car. Still looks very modern for a 15 year old car.

Somewhat ironic that's it's the only part of the car that isn't working. laugh
