You passed me going past the airport in Edinburgh this morning, you know you're on the internet too much when you recognise other people's cars hehe

Good read..

I've got a mk4 2.0 tdci Ghia coming my way that a family member is kindly donating to me.

FSH, c.165,000 miles, recent Cambelt and good tyres, on its second clutch.

Downsides are it's been smoked in, and bodywork is tatty.

At this mileage I wasn't sure if I should spend some pennies on it to make it nice, or just run it in to the ground, but sounds like the mk4's are more than capable of huge mileages.

I know its not a Mondeo, but any tips on Galaxys? Im looking at 2007-2011. Guessing most of it is Mondeo running gear , know any other drivers that run them.

Good read this, shame the newer model didnt live up to the older one

Galaxys are pretty bulletproof although the autoboxes are prone to issues (mainly down to people not servicing them I may add,

otherwise fine mechanically, bugger all space in the boot if you use it as a 7 seater though

Work Colleague bought an 08 plate Diesel with 60K miles - just lunched it's engine - poly toothed belt driving the oil pump in the sump apparently didn't like the working conditions

Apart from an appetite for driveshafts, turbos and cambelts wink

A colleague had all three let go on his and another had repeated driveshaft issues,

They were both 2009/10 models. One of them had 2 sets of replacement driveshafts, although to be fair they were used as chauffeur vehicles so were doing big mileages, ie 200k plus.

The friend who's cambelt went also had the injectors and turbo replaced not long before, so he was mightily peed off as you can imagine, to the point where he gave up and found other employment.

I think he was unlucky though, he bought a bad car. When you see how many AL and other big companies use they can't all be that unreliable.
