I remember this thread from the first time around - OP's fantastic updates making me care more about a 'crappy french hatchback' than I thought possible - so I'm over the moon to see it's still up and going and about to get even more due care & attention.

Please keep the thread going - or start a new one. I'm emotionally invested at this point wink

The gear knob was cracked and I've used the car everyday since buying it and a bits fell off every week. i have a brand new one to fit after restoration. The previous owner hardly used her.

Yeah I saw he didn't use it much. He came a long way to buy it, I know that!

Great that you're using it. Such a nice car to drive.

Nooo! It shouldn't even have those big heavy wheels on it! The ride/handling balance of an AX GT (a sorted one) is one of the best things about it.

Absolutely love it! Might have even replied to this thread over the years.

I've had 3

K671ceo red gt running twin 40s choked down to 36. Lowered, aftermarket wheels etc..... Ran it on £80 a week apprentice wages!

K123mrh Black pre cat gti immaculate & standard. Someone wrote it off after 3 weeks of owning it was gutted!

Last one started out as a forte previous owner had vts in it on the 1.1 box. 4 stud swap gt500 half leather interior.?

I can still remember the roar of the carbs on my first gt can remember how fast the fuel gauge moved aswell!

Would love another some day

Well yes, it was that or remove the wheels. Too big for it really.

Indeed, actually having suspension that moves is (one of) their strong points

I had an AX GT rally car for a few years, did a few events in it, but used it as a road car too for a few months on and off whilst my 5 series was having some pretty serious repairs.

I really liked it, great fun to drive and chuck around, and because it had been a rally car for YEARS it didn't bother me if it got a bit scratched up etc. I did park it in the ditch on one event when my navigator blinded me with their head torch on the approach to a corner.

Anyway, they are great cars, so chuckable, and surprisingly quick too. I don't remember my one being bad on fuel, although it was a standard carb and a slightly improved cam etc. I would have another one, or try to find a GTi...
