My mum and dad had a green 80 Sport, M233 MNA from brand new, bought from Rigby Turner in Haydock, St. Helens when I was . I suspect it's been scrapped but it was always a great looking car and I've been a huge fan of Audi ever since that car.

I'm glad to see an 80 still being looked after today.

M233 MNA looks to have survived until 2010 when a very long list of MOT failures and advisories ended it!

My grandparents had an ’89 1.8L in red.

I remember that it had a blue tint across the top of the windscreen and a headphone jack on the parcel shelf. Lots of memories.

Wow, that is quite a list.

I'm sad that it's probably (almost definitely) not around anymore as I remember the day we picked it up clear as anything but I'm glad it got to over 100k.

Thank you for finding this.

Is there a way of tracing where the MOT was done or anything to give it's location at all?

Got the car back from paint today, the wings are perfect now. The spoiler should be back next week which will finish it off, very happy with the car now.

Fitted some clear indicator lenses this morning, I'm a bit 50/50 on whether or not i like them. It does make the front look a bit like a 90 if you squint which i like, but they also look a bit too modern for it i think!

Got the front mudflaps fitted too now which was harder than it should ever be thanks to poorly designed brackets, ended up throwing the brackets away and using self tappers in the end with a bit silicone to stop any crud and water getting between the flap and wing.

Looking very sharp indeed. I would also favour the orange front indicators as they contrast nicely with the white, and it firmly plants the car in the 80s for B3/B4 differentiation.

Perhaps try it with clear side repeaters and see how it looks.

Still, probably the smartest 80 I've seen!

Spoiler is on.

Next up is to get the rear bumper painted, both corners have been sprayed with a different shade of white, you can just about see it in that photo. I also need a new rear foglight as my lense is cracked, or change the whole boot panel to a 90 one to get rid of the black numberplate panel.

...Also that exhaust hangs too low and is way too small in the huge exhaust cutout in the bumper, I would like the Quattro style twin tail pipes but i'm not sure if they ever made a twin pipe for the non-Quattro without going aftermarket.

Update.

Been having a few problems with the car just completely cutting out for a brief moment while driving, then i noticed if i wiggle the key with the engine running it would cut out too. Turns out the ignition switch was broke, common fault. A trip to Audi and £45 lighter for a new one, seems to have fixed it so thats good.

Gave the front arches a good lick of underseal to keep them fresh and gave everything a clean and a paint just to freshen it up a bit. I know these are galvinised but after 26 years i was expecting to see a bit of rust but was surprised to see absolutely none at all.

update

Not sure if I commented on the wandery handling before but when sitting on a motorway it liked to randomly pull side to side. MOT was due so if anything was wrong it would be picked up then, and it was. Bottom arm bushes were shot causing quite a lot of fore and aft play in both front wheels, I priced up new bottom arms which are a little expensive for these for some reason and ended up choosing polyurethane bushes, which I think is the better choice. What a difference it has made, front end is taught and direct now and the auto lane change feature has gone biggrin

I had one noisy hydraulic lifter which was mega annoying, I can't stand noises that aren't meant to be there and as everything else runs very quiet, it was very obvious. Gave it a service which has quietened it right down for now but I do still get the odd "taptaptap" I think a clean or replacement of the lifters will be done if it gets worse, but for now I can live with it.

I had a white 1989 1.8 about 17 years ago. I still remember the day I picked it up because it felt so solid and secure after my XR3i. I picked the car up during my lunchtime then needed to go to a job in Dundee (about 60 miles away) so I decided to take the Audi instead of the work van to give it a proper run.
I was happily bombing along in total silence, there was almost no wind noise compared to the XR3, but I thought the suspension felt a bit firm. Then I noticed I was doing 105mph!

Mine got replaced after two years when I spun it on a wet roundabout after entering at an extremely optamistic speed. Bumper damage was the only issue, so I gave it to my now wife and bought a pearlescent cream 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 2.2. She kept the 80 for the next 7 years before old age and lots of things needing fixed at the same time lead to the demise of Bessie.

The 90 is one of very few cars I regret selling, I did 45000 miles in it in 18 months ( taking it to 150k miles) as I was working all over the country.
Eventually the fact that I had to fill it three times to get from Aberdeen to Dungeness and the lack of lumbar support in the seats (as well is it needing some jobs doing) made me trade it for a Saab 9000.
The Saab had better seats but was a total lemon and I got rid of it after 4 months. I should have taken the Audi home and bought something else as well, I certainly had the cash but didn't think about it.

These cars were so far ahead of the cheaper cars of the time. Even at 150k miles the 90 still pulled like a train and handled amazingly. Nothing rattled and it had the 5 cylinder growl. G799PUB.

I very much want to replace the 80 with a 90 but running costs are putting me off slightly, I have a feeling it will be worth it for the noise alone though.

Even at 26 years old it has no rattles or squeaks, they really are built to last and Audi did a superb job of doing so.

New wheel day. I've gone for 15" speedlines to replace the 14"s, they look a tad too small and there is quite a lot of sidewall movement with 60 profile tyres. Unsure of going all white or white centres and polished lips, depends how I feel when I come to refurb them. 4 new Nexens will be ordered too, I've been thoroughly impressed with the current ones.
