The even cheaper £3100 Range Rover
Discussion
So ive done it again, bought another shed Range Rover Td6. This one has the gearbox already dead unlike the other which limped around for a while before it died. £3100 delivered to my house.
Its a 2003 Td6 with a 2007 (i think) facelift, 22" L405 wheels, sidesteps, bluetooth and 180kish miles.
Both front tyres need replaced, ones flat and the other has cuts in the sidewall. Wheels are in good condition though, only the odd very small kerb marks.
Will probably just buy a tailgate instead of trying to fight the rust.
Not sure what I will do about these arches though.
Usual misted up rear light, fixed with a hole in the bottom I think.
Interior isnt in that bad condition for the mileage, better than the blue one atleast.
Seems to have hands free bluetooth, no idea if it works.

I swear those 405 turbine wheels are probably worth a decent portion of that price?!
About half the price I paid for the car, I also have a set of 20" stormers left from my old Range Rover so might just fit them and sell these ones to pay for the gearbox to be fixed.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22-RANGE-ROVER-L405-vogu...

Makes another mental note. Range Rovers rot for fun in Scotland too. driven to Scotland a few times to look at cars and all were rotten.
still, quite cheap if you can fix for little money.
Quite. Wouldn't touch anything from Scotland again, I tried a 405 once, went very wrong!still, quite cheap if you can fix for little money.

Ah.. so it was the gearbox that went in your last one - I remember seeing your thread about hearing a 'gravelly' sound but never knew that you got to the bottom of it.So, why did you decide to buy anther one with a broken gearbox rather than fix your original one? (if you don't mind me asking).
If you hadn't seen the vehicle before buying the rust must be disappointing - however if you're not too fussy about a superlative finish it looks like it could be fixed relatively easily. If you repair it and it looks 'fine' from 6ft away then most people won't even notice it's been repaired.
Is any of the rust likely to affect MOT worthiness?
£3100 is the cheapest I have ever seen for a L322. I presume the chassis is alright and the rust is cosmetic only?
Look forward to updates on this and I ag,re that the wheels could be worth a lot. Maybe £2k?
I've been looking at L322s recently. I'd be looking at the bottom of the pile though at 5-7k. I could buy a lovely d2 for that money, but the RR interior on the RR is in another league.

My understanding is that he repaired the old one and sold it to his mother in order to buy this in the knowledge he could replace the gearbox cheaply. Or something like thatSo, why did you decide to buy anther one with a broken gearbox rather than fix your original one? (if you don't mind me asking).

This one popped up online for 4K and I offered him 3k and got it. Was too cheap to say no when I know I can get a box refitted and refurbished for under £2k. Means I will be all in for £5100 when fixed, with £1500 of wheels to sell as I have my old set to put on this.

Glad it's not just me that finds rust in a car less than 15 years old as shocking. Indicative of poor material, which given the price of the thing when new is still unacceptable. Note to self, all LR's rust don't kid yourself and get one as a snotter...
Another one with rust in the same spots. Seems to be fairly normal.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-LAND-ROVER-RANGE-RO...

A few exposed inner bits aside, there is no rust at all on my 04 plate Disco 2. The 2's are known to be solid bodywork wise, it's the chassis that rots. A proper treatment and I have a 10 year anti corrosion guarantee, as well as all of the bodywork cavities protected. An LR technician had a look under my car the other day - he said the condition was better than most 3 year old cars. Back on topic, the OP's RR is a brave punt.... but if you are handy with the spanners then why not?
