Did some work on the car this week. A coolant pipe spilt so that was changed for a new BMW one, also changed the fuel pipe to the filter from the high pressure pump. Two new rear tyres, Conti Sport Contact 5.

If you are a BMW anorak notice the correct "M" badge alignment relative to the M of the M of B"M"W wheel centre badge. Also the genuine BMW metal dust cap. It makes me happy anyway. Also the locking wheel bolt should be as far away from the valve as possible.

Mine are the same. I even spent £40 on new genuine BMW centre caps, the new style look better I think.

In an old life, I used to write for Evo. One friday I had a call to go and work on an Ascar team for the weekend, at Rockingham. It was Bintcliffe Sport, running Jason Plato and Darren Manning in the new formula. Not my kind of racing but a lot of fun wearing the overalls and being the most useless pit crew in the series.

John Bintcliffe drove a 330d (on the road, not track!), and raved about it. Preferred it to the M3. Now, he drove one, so of course he preferred it, probably had a family to cart around in it, but he spoke very highly of it, and it certainly shifted. This was 2002, and i'm not sure if there was much tuning for the diesel engines then or if it was standard. But it flew! Oh, and Plato won one of the races and it was pretty crazy racing. Good feeling of speed with the concrete next to you at 160mph- I passengered in a car, didn't get a drive :-(

New MOT today:

And next to an F31:

Interesting to compare the two side by side. The door trim panel material on The F31 is very low quality and reminds me of a pre production E36 Compact I trained on.

Just put the purple tag rack from my 328 on. What an improvement! It makes the whole car feel tighter. If you have an E46 without one, do it. They are only around £75 used. Just waiting on my 24mm front anti roll bar, I would like a 20mm rear but haven't found one yet. Might have to do with a 19.

Are problems easy to google and forum advice on an E46? Been thinking of getting one next year as a mile muncher and tip run wagon.

Yes, there's lots of advice out there. I have some knowledge of them as I have worked on them since they were launched!

Popped a new drivers seat in today, from an E46 Coupe. I bought two front seats for £10, one worn out, one good. I then made one good seat and removed the tilt function. The reason for no sport passenger seat is my wife and doesn't like them. Yes I know it doesn't match a leather interior, but it's my car and I like it! 24mm front arb on, 19mm has arrived for the back.

it came out of a 4-cyl coupe if it's a manual seat.

The sport seats make such a difference though, the thigh support helping most for lanky folk.

19mm rear anti roll bar on today, with all new gen. BMW bushes and links. It came from a 328Ci.

Can you explain about the oil warning light?

On my 330i the yellow oil warning comes on after the car is running about 30 seconds, then goes off within 10 seconds.

In the past new oil pressure sensor has been fitted, and recently all checks done without any faults. They cant find a reason why it's coming on. Been like this for 5k miles.
Sorry a bit OT

I had never had a oil pressure light before but a red one came on and the car told me to turn off engine immediately. It began running rough and whistled. Was i right to get a full refund? Was it severe? Couldnt see much on google.
Happened at 34k miles 2010 E91 320i

PS

I loved my 330i E46. Good luck! thumbup
Has it got these wheels like mine?

No MV2s on mine. I find they are a little delicate, they look good but are prone to cracks and bends. I have Style 68s. The E90 320i had the N43 engine, renowned for it's problems.

Does anyone know of a good 2nd hand gearbox available for one of these 330d auto (GM5 model gearbox model 5 speed 2002?).
I have given up on my own 330d auto touring and just stuck it on ebay to get rid - but if I can find a working 2nd hand gearbox would swop it over and keep it for a while (it's my tow car).
