Man has more than one mechanical project - big deal.
I've got:
Alfa GTA - shed conversion - 3/4 done
Alfa 156 - ground up rebuild - halfway done
Field Marshall Tractor - on hold
Lister SR4 air cooled diesel - on hold, trying to find parts, why did I choose the rarest engine in the world. It is going to be a 3 phase generator when it is done....
Petter PH1 air cooled diesel - making good progress in the evenings
Oh, yeah and the slating of the shed roof and the garden and the.....
I say go for it. Its not as though he is taking some priceless thing and damaging it - its proper farked already. Even if he doesn't fix it, hands up who has been googling the price of Silver Shadow restoration projects in the last few days?
Are you converting a GTA into a shed or a shed into a GTA. What GTA are are talking here? I think to convert a 105 series GTA into a shed would be a little odd, but I admire eccentricity I've got:

Converting a 156 GTA Sportwagon that has considerable similarities to a small wooden building, typically used for storing garden furniture .... into a usable car.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=158...

I am all in favour. I restored a MK 10 Jaguar at about his age. Yes, it took me years, near bankrupted me several times and I still have a HUGE scar right across my forehead from when the sod fell on my bonce while I was working underneath it!
But, I also have fantastic memories of cruising around in the old girl that I restored myself (apart from the paint) and she was lovely. Even when 1st gear went off to pastures new, that didn't stop me from slushing around in 9MPG splendour and it impressed the ladies no end.
Best of luck chap, I look forward to plenty of updates.

So I have decided to give you all a small update.
I am going to put up the prices of all parts I buy, excluded will be things like old bolts/welding gas/grinding discs etc. Kind of for personaly keeping track of spending but also to let the world know the sort of costs required with these cars.
First purchase of many I assume from flyingspares, was very helpfull as I couldnt find any fuses for the car. I had bought a box of 200 assorted glass fuses and none were small enough!
For comparison to a standard lighter.

Very impressive rover. Was it an extremely rare model then ?
Dont have to be rare cars to save them, not everything is about doing it for monetary gain.Doofus said:
I still think the OP is nuts though

If I started with a nice roller it would be ripped apart and everyone would complain I ruined a good car. I cant win either way

Well done OP, good on you.
Lots of rust is just more of a challenge, I went from this:
To this (4.5 litres, two turbos, mapped ignition and injection = 480 bhp)
That is pretty spectacular!Lots of rust is just more of a challenge, I went from this:

Come on Slow, prove them wrong
So stuck the fuses in the car the other day but had no chance to do anything else.
Stole my battery out my 730i as its a Range Rover battery which needs a good amount of power, assumed a 6.75l engine will to turn it over too.
Smashed apart what remained of the battery box so I could get the wires and run them to a larger battery.
Just wanted to see if it would turn over, no fuel pump, no idea of what condition plugs are and so on. Knew it couldnt start, but thats a job that can be done when there arent a million midgies.
