Bonkers project, but the best ones are!

Can't help but think for big arched brutish Brit inspiration you'd do a lot worse than Broadspeed XJ-C or Robin Hamilton's RHAM/1 Le Mans Aston V8...

Love his content, there’s also another guy (can’t remember his name) who’s sticking a new mustang inside of a old one.
What is your budget?

Have you thought much about the man hours, hours per week and how long it will take?

Is it a project for something to do, or is it for the end result?

Budget is on a as needs base. Reusing what I can from the bmw to cut down on parts, such as using the old suspension/brakes. There’s no real plan for hours etc as I will be doing everything myself.

I’ve always had smaller things on the go but after rebuilding a engine last year decided how hard can it be to just go all out.

No rush to any of it, learn as I go etc.

The front subframe is secured by four bolts but the coils are under compression against the bodywork. Its a big tensioned arrangement - don't just unbolt the subframe as the coils won't have anything to hold them back!

That makes me wince, I hate doing springs anyway, but that, nope.

It wasn’t too bad. I had the car body on stands and the subframe on jacks.

Undid the bolts, lowered jacks to take the tension off, unbolted the tops of the towers then pulled the strings out the top.

Not him, the other guy doing it as well.

He owns a car frame repair place.

Uh... Ignoring the giant front splitter and wheels I like this in a weird sort of way. Been trying to figure out the wide arch problem and I cant stand the ebay ones (like the matte black drift car has) and rocketbunny type kits look out of place.

So bring in the group 5 cars, these are from the silhouette skyline hence the mental front splitter. The era is fairly correct with them being used from 76-82 which the Silver Shadow was produced during (technically the shadow 2). My all time favourite livery on a car is the JPS Lotus 77 black and gold from 76 which matches the era as well.

I dont know if the big boxy arch works in a mad sort of way. Other choice could be along the lines of Lancia Intergrale and Bmw e30 m3 wide arches but these are more modern.

This was a request on a facebook page hence the watermark and done up quickly without livery/wheels.

This type of look but on the Rolls is kind of what I have in my head.

It has to have some form of fairly wide arch as the track is wider before I even add some sort of dished wheel. This means the front/rear bumpers cannot be used either.

I am open to ideas if anyone has some.
I like the general idea (minus the splitter), and the JPS colours would be excellent.

In the top version, the wide arches are carried way to far back IMO. It makes the door look wrong somehow, but I don't have a solution.

Yeh the guy got it abit wrong but for a quick job done via a facebook page I cant expect much more.

In the later picture of the gold one I posted the arches are more realistic for length/dimensions but the style is wrong.

Cracked on for a few hours the past 2 days, its slow going as I have to label all the wires and make sure they all remain intact. I got the rear seats and parcel shelf out too but forgot to grab a picture.

Amazingly the rear boot lid has a hydraulic pump and ram to control the going up and down.

Nah, I’m chopping it down to just the floor pan and strut towers for getting measurements/more usable pieces. Things like the boot floor/fuel tank and rear subframe mount might get moved all across to the rolls in 1 piece.

I’m enjoying your thread, been restoring an eighties Bentley for years Myself as I went through university. It’s slow Going but very satisfying.

Certainly a challange, saw this 62 Daimler at Joe Macari's showroom in 2017, now back on the road, mind you the roller is a massive car compared to this;

Both cars are cut up and been test fitted together with trimming happened to make them sit correctly.

Problem is the place is up for sale so I have had to put both into storage until it sells as not sure viewers want to see this hell going on in the nice garage! Takes almost a day to split them and get them out along with 4 people so not feasible to keep bringing it in and out.
