David Brent : Life On The Road
Discussion
Very much looking forward to this film, in cinemas on 19th August. Trailer here
I know Ricky Gervais polarises opinion on PH, but I was a big fan of The Office, probably because I have spent 20 years working in similar places in the Thames Valley.
His new video to accompany it, 'Lady Gypsy' also made me chuckle. Girl in it looks like Hayley the Tea Lady from The Call Centre. Is it her, I wonder?

I loved The Office, but RG has since become a monumental bellend IMO and the trailer for this did little to change that opinion. Completely full of himself.
Ricky, or David Brent? Surely the joke is that Brent is such a monumental bell-end, but thinks he's great? I once worked with a bloke who was so much like Brent it was almost painful to watch The Office, such was my "that's Colin!" cringe at every turn. Probably why I continue to love the character. I commute past Whitley in Reading most days, where RG grew up. 1950's council estate with lots of social problems, it's got a bad rep, some of it justified, some not. If I'd lucked my way into radio, written and starred in a legendary sitcom, gone to Hollywood, made a couple of movies and hosted The Golden Globes, I'd probably be a teeny bit smug too. Sometimes I get the impession that he can't believe his luck. Whitley's only other claim to fame is that Midge Ure briefly lived there in 1974!

My former boss was like him too, even down to the cringe inducing dancing! M
there was a spot with Ricky on the radio this morning, and they played one of the tracks from the film as well, where they rhyme "Drive to Gloucester/get a Costa. Hard shoulder/coffee holder"
Just to give an idea of the level the film is at. I think it will be good. I'm re-watching The Office for the first time in many many years at the moment (its all on Netflix) and its as cringey as I remember from before.

Granted, RG is not everyones cup of tea, but I just feel that those that do take offence to him, are taking him way too seriously.
Can't wait for the film. Love the office. For any newbies to The office, also check out Extras, not quite as good, but some equally cringey moments in that too.
if it's anything like Derek it will be bloody awfull, let me guess, DB will act like a knob telling racist/sexist/un pc jokes for the whole film untill the end where all the supporting cast who seemingly hate him suddenly think he's great and tell you using talking heads?
The Office was fabulous, but without Merchant helping him with his writing RG is IMO rubbish, Derek as i say was awful, I dont expect this film will be much better - shame.
