1970 BMW 2002 ITBs
Discussion
Hi all,
I've been a long term lurker on these forums and never posted however I thought I'd share my latest car with you all.
Meet "Lucy" the BMW 2002
I've always been a fan of older cars, but never really owned a classic (unless a MK1 Jetta counts?)
My friend bought this car from JFI classics after a restoration 3 years ago and I've been badgering him to sell it me ever since.
I bought an S2000 last summer and a month after my friend decided it might be time to sell up, typical!
I thought I'd wait until this summer to decide if the S2000 was going (having taken it off the road for winter) and after driving the '02 back from road trip to the Evo triangle a few months back convinced me to sell up.
At the Evo Triangle
(before anyone complains excuse the missing space in the number plate on the S2k, I'm not a fan or private plates but it came with the car..... I did say i was a lurker)
The only pictures i have at the mo are the ones for the agreed value for insurance so they're nothing special, but I'll get some better one at some point.
It's a 1970 car so it's a roundie (round rear lights) it's not perfect however the shell is solid but if it was perfect it'd be a shame to modify it.
A quick list of whats been done to the car
Engine:
M10 tii bottom end
E30 318i head with Schirck cam
Ford EDIS Coil Pack
Jenvy throttle bodies
Megasquirt ECU
Lotus Sunbeam subframe & steering rack
Bilstien sport dampers
E21 rear trailing arms
LSD
Girling 4 pot calipers upfront
Rear disc conversion
Servo delete and E9 master cylinder (takes getting used to)
Hydraulic handbrake
There's a few more bits but that's the gist of it.
Car needs a few bits and bobs doing to it biggest being piston rings.
It smokes a bit in the higher rev ranges and as such is running a lower compression ratio, I'm hoping to get this sorted come winter and hopefully get a bit more power out of the engine.
Sounds silly but the thing i love most about this car is the fact that my little lad loves it!
I don't now what it is, he wasn't really bothered about the S2000, he preferred lorries and buses but he adores this car.
Anyway that's a quick run down hope you all like it!

Vote from me
I've always wanted one of these from when I was a lad (and an E-Type).
Few mates cars in here https://www.flickr.com/photos/imaginesky/albums/72...
Cheers for the kind words!
Lovely pics V8A*ndy, they look a bit tidier than mine!
Any more pictures of the Orange Alpina on (not the one with the black bonnet) could only see the picture of the back.
Got a quick vid of the car the other day

Been making a list of jobs of things I want to sort soon (the overall list is bigger!)
Sort out rust patch in drivers door jamb
Fix the fan blower motor. Common 02 problem and not as easy as it sounds.
Fit a different mater cylinder to the handbrake with a smaller bore.
Change the gauges in the centre console. Either VDO or smiths. Need oil press and oil temp then either a clock of volt metre; not sure.
Fit a carpet. The old one was removed before sale and a new one needs making.
I'm on the look out for some 70's recaros so if anyone knows of a set let me know. I have some out of a Rover Vitesse but the plastic round the bases would ruin the look in this car I think.
(not my picture)
All tucked up in the garage at home
I've been invited to a track day with some other 2002 owners at Llandow Circuit. It'll be my first track day and I'm unsure whether to put some track tires on the track wheels I got with the car...

I do have more can't find them all as they weren't the best and the missus archived them.
I'll have a dig but I found these this morning.

Cheers for the extra pics.
With regards to track tyres I thought it'd save me ruining my road tyres and I've never driven with proper sticky rubber. I do get your point though.
Strip and rebuild
Billet Pistons & long rods.
I love golf yellow, Colorado orange & of course chamonix White. Proper period colours.
Yeah the front panel is from a later car.
When it was restored the front panel was shot and a narrow grill early one wasn't available. I've thought about changing it if I can get an early panel (I used to prefer the later front but the old one is growing on me.) however for now it can stay.
Like I said its not perfect but good enough for me.

I had Golf yellow 2002, and a Verona red tii in the 80's, I rebuilt the tii engine, and, it wasn't cheap back then!
The car has the earlier round rear lights, but the front grill seems to be from the later square rear light facelift?
Laranca Motorsport are just down the road from me they've quoted approx £2900 for a rebuild. That included; The car has the earlier round rear lights, but the front grill seems to be from the later square rear light facelift?
