I haven't seen it since early 2013, so I don't actually know what is wrong with it now!
It was a regular driver, and is still regularly started, but it will require the full monty to get back on the road. Actually, it probably won't, but I intend to anyway........one day.....

Got a quick vid yesterday.

https://youtu.be/4TDmwv1ZBzc

Exhaust isn't as farty in real life. That's with the mic attached by the exhaust.
Next time I'll put it in the engine bay by the ITBs see how that sounds.

Unsure as to why the mic makes that weird sound half way in. Will try a new battery.

Nice car. I had a standard round light 2002 when I lived in Germany in 1992. Its bodywork had been home-restored by the previous owner and then repainted in the original beige. This is the only photo I have left (it's a scan of a TriplePrint mini photo). I sold it to a couple of German boy racers, so it was probably lowered and widened within 48 hours!

Loving the pic Lotusomega. I have a set of those wheel trims in my garage.
I'd like to drive a standard one to see how mine compares.

Went to black plate Wednesday at Shelsey Walsh. Was a good afternoon out.

Fell in love with the Alfa, the driving position is typically Italian!

Fitted a prototipo today. Similar to the Petri wheel I had but smaller diameter and thicker.

Test fitting my recaros and started the fabrication work for the mounts. I think they look alright in there.

Can't wait to have carpets but plenty of jobs to do beforehand.

.
That alfa competed with the new classe BMW's, and alfas were so so beautiful in that era and fa better handling than the bimmers.

After test fitting the Rover Vitesse recaros and making some seat mounts in rough I've decided not to use them.

Without the original runners it's hard to make come up with a tidy solution.
They'll sit too high, the brackets will be heavy and a bit of a compromise and although they look similar to BMW recaros they're not quite right.
Even if I did get hold of the right runners I'd have to modify the floor pan to get them low.

They don't tilt (ok I don't have a useable rear seat but still) and I don't want to spend money re trimming them if I'm not 100% happy......

Luckily I knew someone selling some e21 recaros for a decent price.

They need a new bolster and a retrim but I'm happy with them. Just need to decide how I want them trimmed: any thoughts?

Snap!

Driven 02's for most of my life. I know James @ JFi loved yours and it certainly went well enough at Castle Combe when we were there. I'll see you at Landau but will be in the e30.

As for seats, I would get a pair of period Scheel. Don't ditch the Petri steering wheel either, as they're pretty sought after and certainly the best wheel for the 02.

Hope you'll join us on our next weekend jaunt around Wales?

I'm keeping hold of the petri. I really like it and didn't plan on replacing it however the spokes are right in the way of where I hold it and it was becoming uncomfortable.

Tried the prototipo in another 02 and it was a lot nicer.

Scheel seats are lovely but I'm happy with my new seats & what I paid for them.

You bringing your m3 to Llandow?
I'd love to see it, I've followed a few of your builds in the past. However I think that was on retro rides.

Yes, will be in M3. It's Gaydon the day after Landau but unsure I can do both.

Great thing about e21 seats is that they simply bolt straight in.

So will you do anything more to the engine? M3 crank and M30/3.5 rods and pistons for a 2.3 litre m10? wink

Plans for the engine are:
Updated valve springs
New valve stem seals
Updated cam followers
Billet Pistons
Longer rods

I'd like to put the m3 cam & stroke it out to 2.3ish but don't think my budget will allow it, We'll see.
The above should give me 170-180bhp and make for a really nice engine.

There's a chap call Jim on the e21 forum and he built a really nice m10 and ran the M3 ITB's and a Cat or Schrick cam. His was a genuine & reliable 170'ish and as you say, makes for decent progress in such light cars. What ratio diff are you running?

My M3 is only 210 - 220 brake but shorter diff helps.

I saw those.
They're pretty cool but out of budget.
With what I paid for my seats plus a retrim I'm not even at half that price intact that's half of my engine rebuild!

I'll get some pictures of my seats uploaded later.

I did my first track day on the 13th at Llandow

I really enjoyed it, It's a great circuit!

Recaro in! Now limited in corners by tires instead of my doors!

Arrived at the circuit and parked next to this E30 m3 with an s50 engine in it. Owned and converted by Dave from Astbury Motor Works

Luckily the weather cleared up. Maroon 02 is owned by James from JFI classics. He originally built/restored my car

Camera angle isn't great I'll have to find somewhere better to mount my GoPro
https://youtu.be/WP19zTl5Y4o
(Some vids of the e30 on my channel too)

During the day I was getting a bit of a crunch going into 3rd when the box was warm. As the e21 5 spd is hard to come by I thought I'd keep an eye out for one incase mine dies......
Drove the car home and 3 miles from my house the gearbox started making some nasty new noises in 1st and 2nd. Nursed the car home but I now need another box & apparently they can't be rebuilt!

So if anyone knows of an E21 5 speed for an M10 engine please let me know!

I'm surprised you can't rebuild your 5 speed Getrag. Is it down to spares availability?

An e30 box might be an option if you go with an electronic speedo conversion?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-M10-316-318-4cyl-5-S...

or go back to the 4 speed for a while?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bmw-M10-316-318-4cyl-5-S...

Was disappointed to be unable to make it due to work. Are you going to Retro Rides @ Shelsey Walsh in couple weeks?

James was saying that spares aren't available which is a bit pants.

I really don't want to have to go electronic speedo, just wouldn't look right.

Unsure about RR I'm supposed to be out in Nottingham all day and night bit I'll see what happens.

It's only the drive that's converted. Your speedo would still look as it does now.
