Paaaanda 1.Nothing
Discussion
Every now and again i like to indulge my self with some epic bangering.
The TVR is almost complete, Just wants proper geometry and the leather re-staining. And the 7 series is due back from the body shop at the end of the week.
So i spied this little gem going locally. Running on 2 cylinders.
I quite like it. I'm sure the misfire / no-fire cant be that complex to sort. its the worlds most basic engine.
And at the end of the day, its a 100 quid car.

8 valve FIRE engines are simple as it gets, check the HT leads/plugs, if that doesnt solve it, the HG is a simple job.And at the end of the day, its a 100 quid car.
I don't think its the HG. No fluids mixing, no over pressurising and no smoke. It is also a constant misfire across the rev range. not even occasionally spluttering the cylinders.
My guess is it being electrical. Inter-webs has a spattering of information from ECU to coil packs.
OBD just says misfire on 1 and 2. As well as phonic wheel learn error. Whatever that one is.

Assuming this engine isnt too different from the one in a cinquecento, i'd go straight for the coil packs then, the 1.1 in a cinq has two coil packs, each handling two plugs, so im assuming one of them is broken (or might be something stupid like a lose connector/wire)My guess is it being electrical. Nice one OP, tough little cars these Pandas.
We had one on honeymoon, it had done the best part of 100k of hard Italian miles (150k km plus on the clock) and it didn't have a straight panel on it.
We added another 800 miles on very mixed roads in Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, and it never missed a beat. Surprisingly comfortable and had the coldest ice-cold air conditioning I've ever experienced, although running the a/c did reduce the maximum speed available on steep uphill motorway sections to below the legal limit!!
Was really quite fond of the poor decrepit thing by the time we handed it back.

Hiya Stuart, nice purchase. I must admit to having a soft spot for them - one of my friends has one, great little thing that's been 101% reliable since I fixed the cam belt on it;

It was a piece of pish to work on! Even if the hg has gone, it's an hours work to pull the head off it.

Good shout on swapping the coil packs over.
I do have spark on all plugs though. Maby one of the coil packs is just a bit week?
I've experienced that problem chap. Although you might get a visible spark, I understand it's possible for it to break down when under load. A new coil pack sorted mine out ok.I do have spark on all plugs though. Maby one of the coil packs is just a bit week?

Will swap them over to confirm tonight. Could be a cheap fix

its the sodding head gasket. Erughhh. Going to have to get dirty and put my back out.
It isnt too bad of a job, going by my cinq (a panda might have more space to work with, so less disassembly needed). Remove right front wheel, plastic inner wheel arch lining. Remove aux belt pulley, slacken timing belt tensioner, remove timing belt. Drain coolant, disconnect exhaust manifold, fuel/electrical wires to inlet manifold (or remove the throttle body entirely). Remove cam cover, take the head off etc.. Re-assembly is the reverse of previous procedure.Hanes Spanner rating : 3 spanners (might slightly over the top)
