The only down-side is that you'll be addicted to the bloody things for ever.
This. I bought a new daily three months ago and was supposed to be selling mine....but it's still here....Could free up another 3-400 a month by switching to a more modern economical car, but these things are just under my skin!
I might get something more sensible and undertake a light resto on this one soon though, once funds permit.
So, still going strong at 206k. Seems to use 1lt of oil every 3k. A little high but I'm happy to monitor it.
Still performing flawlessly for 11k apart from a broken bonnet release and broken handbrake cable in the first weekend, getting 25-26mpg. Apart from buying I'd only spent £30 on an MOT and then the usual (An oil change, Tax & fuel).
So as I'm quite enamoured with the thing its start to get some jobs off the list.
This weekend I :
- Replaced all 4 perished speakers, looking out for a subtle 6 inch cover (they're a bit full on, but sound good)
- Hardwired a tunecast FM transmitter to overcome the dodgy aux port in the vintage head unit, much better sound quality until I can find a nice retro Becker.
- Installed a cupholder - usually covered by the armrest so its fairly hidden when its down, but has transformed my commute.
- Started deep cleaning the interior, 20 years of grime is going to take a while to shift, took an hour to do 1 seat the steering wheel and door card.
Soon:
- Full Service
- Front Bumper
- Front Wing
- Grill
- Bonnet Release
- ARB bracket
- Repair steering wheel stitching
- Continue deep clean & detailing
- 4x All season Vreds or Conti summers.
- Period Becker Head Unit
- Braided Brake Lines
- Underbody clean and Tetrosyl
- Boot panel hinge
- Boot interior surface rust clean up and treat.
- Blower motor change
- Steering Damper & arms
- Inspect & rework engine loom if required.

Fan pulley support bearing has gone so the car is off the road for a few days TLC whilst I wait for parts. In the meantime this arrived....
The majority of a Prins Multi-Point LPG system...for £100
Running around in a 2010 C250 CDI AMG Sport Estate in the meantime. Grippy and sort of economical (42mpg) but otherwise vastly inferior, I can't wait to get back into my W124!
