Hi all, here is my new runaround, 2001 VW Beetle V5. Bought off the original owner, full file with bills for 15 years of services, MOT's, tyres, bulbs, etc etc. In the last few years they've refurbed the wheels, had new badges on, fixed various bits and pieces, and generally been the ideal past owners.

Let me know what you think, I'm rather smitten smile

They make a lovely noise!

Looks like a good buy what with it being one owner from new with plenty of documentation! Enjoy!

First time I've spotted a Readers Car on the road! (M6 J16 roundabout tonight if you're wondering).

I've always liked the idea of a subtle fast Beetle.

Sadly couldn't hear it over my own diesel clatter. Looked very nice though.

Just a quick update, tank 1 saw 31mpg, tank 2 saw 28.5mpg. Not too shabby, certainly fine by me, the noise alone makes it worthwhile.

It took you that long to go through a tank in a V5? Did you drive it?

hehe

I had my V5 wrapped up in a Passat estate. Wonderful engine and creamy longish-throw 5-speed manual resulted in a brisk practical and handsome car. They warble well and represent the sort of engineering in the unusual and the different which we don't see so much these days from mainstream manufacturers.

Good luck with your Beetle OP, it's a rare and pleasant car.

5 cylinder warble in a beetle...theres me thinking I would only settle for a 1.8T beetle,

This gives me an idea.

There's a nice blue one on Autotrader to £1,200.

Wife had a V5 Sport Edition , she loved it but it never felt that nippy to me, used to average 30mpg on the daily commute which isnt too bad i guess

Yeah, they're not that quick, but I really like ringing it's neck. Its certainly a bit slower than the Golf gti I had before, but quite entertaining, especially alongside a boring old 4 cylinder or clattering diesel.

I love the noise.

Is that rear aerofoil one that pops up at a certain speed?

Yeah, but you can put it up and down via a switch under the dash.
