I was in OPC Chester on Saturday dropping off my car for a service.

They have a beauuuutiful GT3RS in the showroom, in ultraviolet with Carbons, buckets, and just under 1k miles. I don't often get distracted as I still love the 997TT, but this was something else. If you can get down to see it, I'd reccommend it, it's lovely.

It didn't have a price tag displayed, and I vaguely remember prices of about £130-140k being discussed on here, so I enquired as to whether it was for sale, and if so, how much. My wife was even pushing me towards it as she liked it too. So I ran through the man-maths in my head, and thought I could make that work...

"Yes sir, it's for sale, and it's £240k" was the reply. That put it about £100k above list. Wow.

Not being up on the latest prices, I had a look online and it seems like there is now a market for cars in OPCs selling way above list prices. And not just this... lots of them, most models. I guess supply and demand is driving this, but what happened to OPCs not being able to sell cars at above list price? This was certainly "the rule" when I bought my first porker about 20 years go. At that time the salesman explained to me that Porsche AG didn't want dealers (or their friends) to be ordering the cars, then putting them up for sale at a massive margin, creating a distorted market, so I was paying list price for a 1 year old car as that was the most they could charge.

So I assume this has all changed now. Oh well, money talks I guess!

If you're prepared to pay way above list, then their GT3RS is very, very nice. I would certainly pay the list price for it, but I guess I am not going to get my hands on one at that price anytime soon, hence the markup. It's definitely a £140k car, but are people really buying them at £240k, given what else you can get for that?

Oh well, back to my turbo and my daydreams!

I have one in UV with PCCB's, LWB's and so on coming later this year. Specc'd up it is costing me £183K GBP (€212K euro) from my OPC, new price in Germany. Sterling has taken a massive tanking of late, so once transportation and registration has been taken into account in the UK, there wouldn't be anything like the £100K you mention if I were to sell it. Probably closer to £5-10K

I appreciate that, certainly importing one wouldn't be good now, I was just going off UK list price and options list, and how great the gap was between this and the asking price. Oh, and the change in OPC policy. A good way to maximise their profits in this market would be for them to buy some of the cars they are allocated and sell them on as approved used...

Oh, and BTW, this is not a criticism of the OPCs, or the cars. Quite the contrary, Chester have some really nice cars at the moment (GT3s and GT3RSs in 997 amd 991 flavours), which is great to see, and in their shoes I would be looking to maximise my profits too. it just caught me by surprise given the previous policy.

Bright wheels?!.... yey!
clear rears....Boooo

Special editions the new norm... I wonder for how long
Porsche, Lambo, Aston, McLaren, Lotus....churning out the limited run must haves that go stratospheric on the used market...
I'm not even o the first rung of the ladder in terms of disposable and affordability, I love the products being created... but its a bit of a confusing market and must be odd to be part of....manoeuvring to be in with a chance of owning, and then either resisting because you love the car or awaiting the price hike because that was your reason... bizarre.

Told you it was nice!

In the flesh the wheels look more grey than silver. I quite liked that.

Might not be the same car, but I'm pretty sure that GT3RS has been in the showroom for at least 6 months.

OPC can't sell new cars over list, can sell second hand over list, think it's always been this way

Above car is NOT the OPC Chester RS ... The rear lenses do look blingy flash but somehow they really
work with the silver rims and uprights!!

the issue is they are "AS NEW" as in never left the showroom and no miles on most of these cars.

yes they are registered to an owner, and people are told "NO FLIPPING" but the OPC are flipping as new cars which have never been off site!

and hence the rub !

I think if cars had >1000 miles on the clock and had been used then there would not have been the big uproar/press following etc.
