Hi guys, been on here forever but never made a readers' cars thread...
Now i need to as i need insureance help!
I'm decided to go the modifed car route, and replace my 16 year old suspension with some nice bilstein b8's matched with eibach progressive lowering springs.
I'm 25 had my licence for only 3 years, and have 0 no cliams bonus.
It's currently SORN while i start the modding process.

I've just rang brentacre, following advice from a friend and have been told the car's is not worth enough to be insured with any of the insureance brokers the company works with...

I've also got other mods planned, including a engine swop next year(!).
Pic's of ticky the little gold bimmer to follow, along with nice new shiny parts.

Try Adrian Flux, no idea what sort of premium you might be paying but would imagine a hefty quote on a highly modified car and a newish driver with zero NCB. Might make more financial sense to stick to a more powerful standard car(assuming the compact is a 316/318 hence the engine swap) until you have accumulated some NCB. Again making an assumption that your compact is a smaller engine version, would it not make more sense to just sell it and get a bigger engined version??

More fun building your own though surely?

I've been considering getting a Coupe and fitting the s54 from an e46 M3.

My current e30 is pretty extensively modified and insured via Competition Car Insurance.

Exactly, thats a lovely idea!
And it's weight!
The compact engine swop would be a whole bunch lighter.

Anyway, i rang Adrian Flux today, spoke to a top bloke, 50minute phone call and dispite my circumstances got it insured in it's current form(!)
Thank god i'm 25 so now allowed modified car insureance; price was a bit steep but it'll be insured once the susupension is completely fitted and it's no longer SORN at the start of next month.
Also i'm good to fit a custom stainless exhaust, it's blowing and need a new one, so might as well go custom stainless silly.
Plans for engine swop will have to be pushed back due to insureance cost, but it'll give me more time to finalise my plans...

Great car OP, and glad you got the insurance sorted! thumbup

Please let us know about your transplant plans! (FWIW Europe got a 323i version, but sadly the UK didn't)!

That may be why my Compact is the later E46 325ti model....!

Racing Dynamics also stuck in a tweaked (5.5L 424bhp) V12 from an 850Ci smile

How do you find the rear B8s? I found mine too hard and sold them (on an E46). Fronts are great.

Mrs Fred had one of these from new, a Boston green Ti, M283RCX from memory. It was nice car but didn't go around corners particularly well. She swapped it for an M3 EVO which was Dakar Yellow and prevented me from driving it in daylight.
