We picked this up on Thursday to replace a Mk5 GT TDI, it seemed a bit daft to have two diesels, as we also have a BMW 330d M Sport Touring for family and long distance/holiday duties.
So we got the GTI to upgrade the TDI and to have a bit more fun with!
We looked at every colour and decided white was easily the best, so then the search was on to find one with a decent spec and in good condition. I looked at some right dogs for sale with traders, and was starting to get disheartened until I spotted this one for sale privately on eBay.
It was only 50 miles away so I decided to at least have a look, and it had a good spec too.
I took it for a long test drive and couldn't fault it, so left a deposit to collect it a week later when I got back from holiday.
While away the seller put on a new pair of Bridgestones on the front, MOT'd it as promised in the advert and removed his plate.

Its done 59k, we are the 3rd owner and has full VW service history.
Spec wise, its got Dynaudio, RNS510, factory tinted windows, 18" Monza's, sunroof, and adaptive xenons.
I'm going to retrofit bluetooth, MDI, front and rear parking sensors with park assist and a few other bits and bobs.
It's also been lowered, I need to find out what springs are on it from the previous owner, but they're very good and not bouncy or crashy thankfully.

When I get the time I will give it a full machine polish and detail, but for now some pics as it is now:

These look so 'class' got the right amount of subtleness but at the same time just enough to show its a GTi, love them.

Likewise, one of these will be my next car. Don't think they look too high as standard to be honest and if it was me I'd prefer standard springs. But alas.

Good choice!

I too have recently purchased a White Mk6 Golf, mines the R version which I'm falling in love with more and more each day, I really like the styling of the MK6 and very rarely see another on the road especially in white.

Just a right pain to keep clean especially as I just want to drive it all the time.

Enjoy!

I agree, I've had tons of lowered cars over the years and wouldn't of done this one if it hadn't of already been done.
When the previous owner had it a snapped spring got found during a service inspection so took the chance then to fit some, otherwise he said he probably wouldn't of either.
My 330d is also lowered and drives very well without being bouncy. If the Golf had of been bad I would of sourced some standard springs, but I'm happy with it as it is, and it looks amazing on the street.
I don't think I've owned a car thats turned as many heads and gets as many looks since my RS4 or Cosworth!

I had a 2010 GTi 3dr in white with the 18" Monza's exactly the same as yours and still regret selling it. Always used to get loads of random nice comments from strangers when out and about in it so dont be surprised if you do too.

Thoroughly recommend the Revo remap, absolutely transforms the car and doesn't need any additional hardware.

Enjoy,

I thought your 330d had gone for a moment. Love the mk6 GTi. More so than the mk7. LED rears is a good idea. Really modernises the rear of the car. How does the Dynaudio system sound?

I was thinking about selling the 330d too but really struggled to find anything as good to replace it with that has as good a spec.
In the end I thought why am I looking to spend money to find what Ive already got? So going to make a few changes to that and keep it.

The Dynaudio system is very impressive, especially the bass!

Have a look at the TSI timing chain tensioner problems online and see if it's been done.

I was already aware of the tensioner issues, I asked the seller if he had ever had it changed.
As he was unaware of the potential problems its not been done, so I am planning on getting the revised one fitted asap.

I miss my Mk6 Golf. Changed jobs and swapped into a 1-series, which was nowhere near as nicely built.

Mine was only a GT-TSI DSG, but it had Dynaudio and lovely alcantara seats.

That does look really good. VW really nailed the Mk6 GTI, looks great on the Monza wheels as well.

Always fancied a Mk6 but looking into those tensioner issues and that really is a problem if you are looking at spending 12k on a used car. It is a really poor show that VW clearly know about the issue as the part has been redesigned but refuse to recall the affected cars. A failed tensioner and more the likely the engine will lunch itself.

I was worried about the tensioner issue when I bought a Octavia VRS (same engine), affects cars around the same age as the OP's Golf. But I budgeted for it and £868 later at a VAG specialist mine now has all of the revised tensioners/chains/guide rails etc fitted. The garage said they weren't aware of the new tensioner failing in the same way as the original so it should be future proofed now and shouldn't put anyone off if they are willing to pay for the peace of mind. Agree about VW though, what an absolute shower of st for customers that is!

Nice car OP, a remap really wakes the TSi engine up smile

Didn't realise they even made a mk6 R! They must be rare in the UK as I don't recall ever seeing one. Mk7 R's on the other hand are everywhere!

It's literally only the tensioner that needs changing to the latest revision.
Don't let that put you off the whole car!
Plus, if the seller isn't aware of the problem and hasn't had it done you can use it as a bargaining tool.

On another note, I found out it's got Eibach springs which was nice to see.
I knew they wouldn't be cheap ones from how it handled smile

Very nice car always fancied one but never had the cash to upgrade from the cars I have had in the past.
