I'm toying with upgrading the headunit to have DAB and Apple carplay
I have CarPlay in my car. It's fine, but I wouldn't go out of your way to install it in your car!

We’ve got it in our Caddy, so know what I’m in for.
You can get an OEM VW RCD330+ with CarPlay for about £130. My other option is to an an MDI interface t my RNS510 as I need iPod/iPhone support as I have an iPod with 6000 or so tunes on

This is interesting. I’ve the RNS510 with Nav and reverse camera but want the Bluetooth and phone integration. Want it all to look original too.

I know I can get the Bluetooth module but it’s not cheap.

The 7P6 035 730E Bluetooth module gives handsfree and streaming audio.
Make sure you get the correct 730E one as other revisions don’t do everything.
You need the loom to go with it connects to the headunit and the module lives under the drivers seat in a piece of black polystyrene.
From there the loom goes to the front light unit in the roof to connect a mic.
Depending on the version of RNS510 you have got you might need a firmware update. It worked before but just displayed Bluetooth audio rather than the track. A bonus was that it also added radio text info too
Thanks for the detailed response.

I bought another golf yesterday and scavenged an RNS510 from it and a Bluetooth module that was stuck to the inside of the dash behind the head unit to fit in my GTi. Having issues connecting via Bluetooth so unsure if it is a coding issue our if I need to also scavenge the unit under the drivers seat. I'll have a look into it tomorrow.
I know the RNS has Bluetooth streaming capabilities as this one has a Bluetooth button under the media menu across the top of the screen. Never connected my phone to the previous car to see what it displayed on the screen though!

Yes, the bluetooth module is under the seat from the factory, so not sure what it was stuck behind the dash?
Some people do fit them in other places, what is the part number on it?
I'm thinking my best option would be to add an MDI for ipod interface then I will have everything.

When I added bluetooth handsfree I had to code it to the car to get the menu to appear on the display between the clocks.
You can pick up the module for about 100 quid or so on ebay, then 20-30 for the loom

I'll take a proper look at it when my fakra aerial turns up in the next couple days and take a couple pictures of it.
I wasn't sure if I needed it as my car already had the Bluetooth menu between the clocks but thought while I was there I might as well pinch it and see what happens. I think I just need a bit of time with vagcom and a play around and it'll be fine.... I hope! smile

Just remember to take a pic of any settings or coding before you change them

One of my LED side lights stopped working, so had to put the nasty piss yellow bulbs back in laugh
I ordered some brighter LED ones to replace them, so they match the xenons perfectly now, although the pic doesn't show it too well.

I've also received an MDI and loom for the armrest. Annoyingly the charger for my coding laptop has died, so can't fit it until that arrives

I do have a Mk6 GTI and I`m considering a remap but I also like the sound of Superchips Bluefin simply because you can add/remove it yourself.

Any other Mk6 owner out there with real experience of the handheld Bluefin device?

You’d be better off asking in the VW section than my thread.
Personally I wouldn’t get one but that’s just me

Having now looked at they price they seem a bit steep, I guess a proper remap would be more beneficial anyway.

Fitted an MDI in the arm rest yesterday, it showed up on the RNS without needing to code it, but I added it properly any way.

Will be going on autotrader/ebay next week, I need something bigger to tow with

Coded in fog lamp cornering lights (low speed) and the extra wipe to catch the drips.
Both are pretty handy and free!

VCDS. Also changed the comfort indicators to five flashes, digital speedo, changed the DIS to show the temp all the time, and some other stuff I’ve forgotten.
Keep meaning to try coding so the sunroof shuts if it starts raining!

Just don’t be tempted to buy a cheap copy off eBay, they’re crap and don’t work properly. They don’t support software updates either

What should they cost for a decent one? And, does anyone know if making changes like this will affect my VW warranty - I suspect it could.

No such thing as different makes/good or bad, its either a genuine one or a copy.
I got mine from www.gendan.co.uk
It is only coding, so no physical changes to the car unless you retrofit something.
Everything is reversable, just do a full scan before changing anything. Then you can put it back to how it was, or undo any mistakes you make!
It is possible to make damaging changes, so obviously you need to do some research and use your head.
If you don't want to buy a cable then you can go on the facebook group and ask for someone local.
Most people will do coding for you for £10-£20. I'm in Northamptonshire if that's any use.
Not all cars can do everything possible, it all depends on build year and which modules the car has got.
Eg. as mine is an 09 it doesn't support needle sweep, but later ones do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf4gtOiodOU
There is also a dongle that works with your phone called OBDeleven, but I've never used it, so have no idea if it's more powerful than VCDS, but I don't think it has as many options IIRC
