So after having my original thread deleted due to posting videos of it that I have on MY youtube channel (I thought this was a car site to share our love but apparantly not) I thought I would make another one.

So it's a 2016 VW Polo Gti 1.8 6C MANUAL

  • Sports pack (2 way dampers etc)
  • Convenience pack
  • Pearl black paint
  • 5 doors
192ps 236ft/ib 1272kg (book figures)

For reference an R32 has exactly the same torque figure but only available higher in the rev range and of course it weighs a st tonne more!

People respond well to it, usually thinking it's a Golf GTI which is no bad thing. On the inside it looks virtually identical to both the Golf Gti and R apart from the seats so it's a bit of a bargain in my opinion! The engine is also a variety of the EA888 engine in the Golf R, Gti and audi S3, Leon Cupra etc so tuning should yield good results.

I've been on the hunt for performance parts and apart from remaps I can't seem to find anything from the UK or Germany, however I have found parts in Japan! (Who knew)

First on the list will be uprated brake pads and tyres when the current ones have had it.

ABT sells performance bits.

The Swiss VW Importer trusts the (chip)tuning. So much so, that they've brought out a special model with factory warranty.

Look at getting one of these for a good while. There wonderful little cars, bit stealthy too!

I had to settle for a 1.8T Gti as we just bought a house.

Yeah I like that to be honest. Nothing worse than attracting unwanted attention. That said it seems to attract a lot of attention at night time (probably because it's black and shine and has the cool LED head and tail lights and diamond cut alloys)

Booked for Snetterton on the 13th smile

I've also noticed Revo now do some shiny oarts for it which is always tempting for the future. I have my eyes on the four pot brake kit and am also thinking about Cup 2 tyres when this set has had it.

No more than a Golf Gti and the car community has always tended to care about those!

It drives well if not better than most of its competitors and spanks them for an all rounder so yes it's a tad boring. But then I've had all manner of French fun metal and that was a tad flimsy so horses for courses and all that!

It's a nice car however I see the ongoing self-justification hasn't ceased since the last thread...

Joe,

Is the Polo GTi the car you wanted or the car you think everyone wanted you to have?

They are really nice cars but you seem to be trying to justify your purchase with every post you make, even in threads not related to your Polo GTi or the Polo GTi in general.

Just enjoy your car man, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks...

I think it's the "poor mans Golf" comments that seem to bug me. It's a good car in its own right!

Anyway bit of non VW related content but I went down to see my brother at the weekend to see his first ever car!

Might be biased but the 2016 Polo looks a lot better than the current Golf which has been peddling the same styling for 6 years now.

No bias here but I agree. The Polo has grown into it's looks but the Golf has become fat and bloated looking.

Why should it matter if other people call it the poor mans Golf?

Stop caring what other people think about it and for god sake stop justifying it by saying how much better you think it is than the Fiesta ST or 208 GTi! rofl

I think the Polo GTI is now the new Golf GTI in size and spirit. As said above, the Golf has grown and become bloated. I'd love a Polo GTI to complement the incoming Mercedes SLC.

Polo GTI is £18k thats a good £10k under a Golf GTI, the build quality might be a step up but it's not £10k worth of improvement.

Build quality is spot on so far. No rattles or squeeks so far. The interior is practically identical to the Golf's if you get a manual it even uses the same large touchscreen infotainment system. Sure you get more goodies in the Golf but the only one I would be interested in is the regular clubsport Gti.

The ESC can only be set to sport which is a bugger although I've never felt it intervene in sport mode. Probably because it doesnt really like to get its tail out much which is bad in the fun factor...my previous Clio 172 would often need a dap of opportunity on corner entry whereas this just want you to pick your line and stay on it.... but it sure does go about its business well. An LSD might improve its second gear corner exits a touch so that and the brakes and tyres would be my first steps if I ever felt the need to modify it.

In the power stakes the regular Golf Gti only has around 20bhp and 22ib/ft more but obviously weighs at least a heavy passenger or so more.

Shame the Polo can't be ordered with a proper performance pack like the Golf (all you get is a sports pack which just adds engine noise, increased throttle response, adjustable dampers and increased steering weight)
