That picture does illustrate your point well but if you got closer they look rather different indeed particularly the red stripe placement.

I'm not going to get into an argument about the car. I like it so i'll continue the thread as I see fit.
All is now clear. As you were...

My mum just bought one, almost identical spec as far as I can tell. I'm looking forward to taking it out a blast.

I just find it amusing that I have come from a very mildly modified Clio 172 (a car that in PH seems to be held in very high esteem) to this which is better yet no one seems to like it on here.

Ah well it does the job I require of it so I'm happy smile

I don't think it's the fact that no one on here likes the car, it's more the way you portray it.

Is this one of those cars that just does everything really rather well and then gets damned for being bland?
I personally wouldn't have one, but when I try and put my finger on why it's a bit of a challenge...especially given I really like the MKV Golf GTi and the VI is ok.
The Polo goes well, handles well, is well built, practical, economical...but it just 'feels' like it's got no flair.... (but somehow I 'feel' the Golf does??)..
The Renault's ALWAYS get the flair, the spirit, the emotion going...and they only cast a side glance at the WhatCar? stuff along the way...

Subjective innit.

But when a car in it's class punches so hard on so many levels it must be hard to read some less glowing comments and not reply..."yeah BUT...."

You like it. That's clear and great.
Good to read about the ownership experience too.
Less good to read all the "yeah buts"

If you want to know why people are surprised by the vigour of your enthusiasm, look no further than Evo's words: "Capable rather than captivating".

it thing that can be also read as so good its dull.
i think what makes a great car for 'proper' PH people is a car with flaws if it does everything really well then its just dull.

take alot of the head to head tests of cars like the focus rs and ctr quite often its not the technically best car that wins because the other feels more raw or lively where the other has been engineered to feel more comfortable and capable so doesnt tug at the hear strings so much

Maybe that's why I like it. It's a breath of fresh air. It's different to my previous cars. I loved my 106's/saxo's, Twingo RS and Clio RS because of their fun nature but they were pretty flawed in most other areas.

Would I add a bit of flair to the chassis instead of it wanting to just grip everywhere. Hell yeah! But then that comes at a cost.

So the car had its first service yesterday

https://youtu.be/bLr9YumUE6A

Pretty cool that Volkswagen provide you with a video of it all! I like that!

The reason the rear tyres are more worn than the fronts is not because I've been lift off oversteering everywhere it's because I got a puncture in my rear left tyre a while ago so swapped the best tyres to the front. Still impressed that they have so much tread left considering the mileage and usage but they definately lose comfort the less tread there is.

I'm curious as to what units ib/ft is.

Its not torque as that is force times distance.

I know what a foot is.
I'm not sure what an ib is. I know what a lb is.
