One of the minor niggles (inheritent design flaw) of the 220 is the air con system. It's a bit hit and miss as to whether you get a chilly flow, or a wheezy pant. Never really an issue in the UK other than those rare summer days that take us by suprise. It wouldn't be the issue it is without the full glass roof. Maybe it's time to look at a new system, and or find a suitable reflective film for the glass.
the glass panel must weigh a bit too. Can it be swapped out for a lighter metal panel, tastefully trimmed??
Sure can. The blue car is running a carbon roof panel which makes a huge difference. I'm just conscious of taking mine too far away from its intended spec.

Haha, sometimes!

No in all seriousness, I don't get sucked into all that "who's better than who". Fairly content with what I work hard for and don't worry about anyone else. It's all relative anyway.
Fully agree. If you focus on others achievements you never get your own st done.

Apologies for the radio silence. She's been back on the road after some quiet time. The cold weather suits it.

Great to see it being used, rather than tucked up in a garage.
You'll like this one then.

So to appease everyones thoughts regarding old school supercars and unreliability etc. Myself and a bunch of friends decided to drive from the UK to Geneva to experience the motorshow. It's been a bit of an annual pilgrimage the past few years, however for one reason or another, the XJ220 hasn't joined the trip. This year was her year.

Long and short of it, I collected the car, met the gang in London and proceeded to drive from Central London to Geneva, via Spa, the Ring, Molsheim (pic) and into Geneva... and back. Not a peep, wiggle or wobble the whole trip. She was incredible on the motorways, engaging on the country roads and mighty everywhere else.

The perfect GT car for the week.

Apologies for the complete radio silence. The 220 has been out enjoying the weather and its new tyres. HUGE improvement.

Just read this start to finish, can't believe that I'd missed it.

Great to see the car being used, hats off to you OP, I'd like to think that on occasion the door bins are stuffed with the random crap that door bins acquire along with bits and pieces in the passenger footwell.
Yup. Usually very much full of uselessness.

OP - you may have already answered this but I am curious whether it happens with all cars, or just the cars I drive (considerable less inspiring ones!)

I lusted after certain cars all my life, from posters to the reality of buying it and running it.

Has there become a point that the car didn't meet your initial rose tinted expectations and you have considered getting rid?

I guess I am drawing on my experience of a mk1 golf, it was my dream car, I lusted after it, had posters of it, and eventually brought it.

For the first 6 months I loved every minute of it, found any excuse to drive it, and the car generally fulfilled my every expectation.

Then things started to go wrong, and I soon fell out of love with it, and I started noticing things that I hadn't noticed before that put me off it.

Does that ever happen with an XJ220? I'd like to think not...
Negative Wilson. That wont be happening.

Which did you choose, the Pirelli or the Bridgestones?
Bridgestone for sure. The tyre the car was developed on.

Are those the new ones they've done for them, updated a bit?
Yes, exactly that. Lots of work behind the scenes went on. Link to a documentary of the work done here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKWcZ3NJdw0

Mmm, I saw that. It impressed me that they put that much work into what can't be a particularly big earner for them.
It's worth mentioning that it was effectively funded in its entirety by Don Law Racing. All involved in the project mucked in.

A first-world problem to the extreme, I bet, but does having such a high speed range represented on the dials make driving at accurate slow speeds (20, 30mph) bloody awkward?

Because that looks like a rather respectable cruise there (bit of back of calculator stuff) and of course 70 would be well left-of-12 o'clock on something that needs to show 210+.
Yes, the only fine I've had in it was at 34 in a 30 lol
