Hi from a fellow... err... boyfriend of a Twingo RS owner biggrin

You might want to rethink those coilovers once it comes to replacing the Cup shocks. Cost us c. 500 pounds for all four, which really isn't extremely far from a set of decent coilovers. This was after having a proper look around, mind, as Renault in Poland wanted twice as much! Ended up getting them shipped from the UK.

Also, if you're buying new tyres and want to stay with the Cup pack 17s, go for 205/40 - far better protection of the rim and a better choice in tyres/prices.

How is the Swift? I've been keeping an eye on those recently they're supposed to be pretty awesome too!
It's noisy on the motorway, more thirsty than it should be, not comfy on long journeys, missing things such as Bluetooth, the Keyless is on the blink and it rattles about. But it's brilliant to drive. Everyone I know who's into cars loves going in it and has a soft spot despite driving more powerful cars as dailys, and living in Surrey, there are lots of roads where I can enjoy it.
Is that the first gen Swift Sport (ZC31S)? I've got the second generation (ZC32S), which rights a few of the issues with the ZC31S. The ZC32S is more refined and has a better ride than the ZC31S, but there is still some wind noise on the motorway. I've read that the handling is more precise, but less adjustable than the ZC31S, which can be a little nervous: https://youtu.be/Otn9WmKBkgw?t=8s

Evo did a twin test that pitted a RS Twingo 133 Cup against the ZC32S and it was pretty close.

Yass:

"So which to choose? Well, the Twingo looks great, is a wild ride and if it’s your first foray into the world of evo cars then it would be jolly exciting. It would be fun on the occasional trackday as well. But after you’ve got over the initial buzz, when you actually want to concentrate on tackling a set of corners with some poise, the bounce and bump of its suspension mean you have to back off just when you really want to push on the most. We’ll try a non-Cup version soon to see what difference that makes, but for now it’s not quite the sparklingly finished hot hatch that we’ve come to expect of Renaultsport.

The Swift could do with a little of its predecessor’s more spirited on-limit character to complete the picture, but there’s no doubt that it wins this test. Snicking through that lovely gearbox, lining up each corner with confidence, feeling the suspension working with the tarmac, not letting an ounce of precious power scrabble away, almost floating through a corner when you get it right… it is a beguiling little car."

Indeed! It's the last reg they had them on and only had 25k when I purchased it (31k now) and was the lowest miler in the country I could find at the time - Luckily a 10 second walk at a garage by my house -- it has a few revisions on the mk1, higher rev limiter (7.2k as opposed to 6.8), grill change and I've been told different gear ratios? It's certainly a bit more raw than the mk2 and really does feel like an old school hot hatch - I'll probably create a thread soon.

OP: What are you making of the ride so far? I've been read the Twingo rides a bit harder than SSS - and that's pushing it for me already!

Personally I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as it has been made out to be, to the point where I did a double check to make sure my car did have the cup chassis as I was expecting it to be so harsh! Don't get me wrong if you go over a large speed hump or a particularly rough piece of road it is very crash and firm but 90% of the time it's absolutely fine

Corsa and Astra sxi's have a lot worse ride than the Twingo . Its only really the rear that is a bit on the hard side but its no where near as bad as people think .
It makes a massive difference dropping a wheel size down to 16s .

Maybe I'm biased, I know the Swift Sport wins most comparisons (usually by a small margin)... but I'd still take the Twingo smile Maybe it's the whole RenaultSport thing - whatever it's worth. Surprisingly the Twingo is a very practical car for a family of two. Well.. that's if you don't include highway cruising in practicality biggrin 4k RPM at ~120km/h is not particularly comfortable biggrin We've very rarely wanted for more space though. And despite the short gearing, we've done a few Eurotrips in it already (press car during Tour Auto, trip around northern Italy and a trip to Croatia), all starting from Poland, so a good few thousand kilometres each time.

They are both well developed cars and are the last of their kind (N/A hot/warm hatches). I don't know about the rest of you, but the thought of a 300+bhp hot hatch doesn't appeal at all.
Enjoy and appreciate whilst you can.

I'm Lurking in Twingo Territory wink

Really fancy one of these as my daily.

My Commute is going to get shorter , so i fancy a smaller car that is cheaper to tax and insure.

More importantly , how does it sound out of the box? I am told it makes quite a good noise!

Fantastic wee cars they sound good out the box with the bung removed out of the air box .
Mine has a ss manifold and system with no cat and is very very loud sounds nice even at over 7k !

Inside space is good I am 6'3 and have no issues and find it comfortable on a long run but others don't . Rear space is better on the non cup cars as they have the seats that slide I just have I lightweight bench seat with having a cup but its not to bad with my kids in tbh .
When the seats are out its like a small van and is very useful .

I have a 2010 RS Cup 133 and it's a great little thing, I had a good long look round and wanted to track down a proper one with the full weight reduction and not just the Cup chassis. They are great little cars though and they do shift well! I'm looking to sell mine before Christmas to move on as I fancy a change but if anyone is in doubt then take one out for a test drive you'll love it for what it is.

What was the appeal of the Cup vs Cup pack for you? I really don't get it, unless you're building a track car. Can't imagine a daily without AC anymore and if you want weight savings, then it's literally a few minutes to take the individual rear seats out altogether.

So the time has come to treat the little RS to a few modifications after nearly a year of ownership! I'm looking at getting some Federal 595 RS-R tyres in 205/40 R17 for a bit more grip and also a BMC DIA enclosed induction kit to get the engine sounding a bit more fierce when pressing on! Has anybody any experience with either of these products on their own cars? Views?
