Renault Laguna Coupe
Discussion
After having owned my Inferno 182 for 3.5years and covering 50,000miles in it, it was time for a change but unfortunately with the gearbox giving grief just as me and my partner were looking at buying our first house the interest in repairing the car was very low.
Anyway, this is the replacement I picked up yesterday, having moved a little further away for work a diesel would be desired as I was starting to notice the shift pattern at the local petrol station!
Overall the car is a massive step up from the build quality of the 182 and it's a lovely place to be wafting to work and back. I only have the one photo at the moment but I will get some more taken at the weekend.

You never seen too many, it does look different to the norm with Renault.Anyway, this is the replacement I picked up yesterday, having moved a little further away for work a diesel would be desired as I was starting to notice the shift pattern at the local petrol station!

As good a drive as the 182 is , build quality even 12 years ago was bargain basement shocking.
As far as I'm aware it's a Nissan engine, which is also a cam chain so no over priced cambelt and dephaser changes like the Clio. Interior seems pretty rattle free but at the end of the day it's a Renault, you can't expect it to have the same level of build quality as a German equivalent.
It's surprisingly comfortable and quiet in the cabin and it's got a good equipment level which keeps me happy with.
I agree with the Clio but it'll always be a car which I rate highly for handling, was such a laugh to throw about on track and you could feel what the chassis was doing.

The company I work for had two of these as company cars, both the 150bhp engine I think. Both got to well over 100k miles before being sold on having had nowt more than routine maintenance in that time, and the interiors still felt pretty solid and rattle free.
Great looking underrated car IMO.

That does look really nice. What's the reliability of these things like? Laguna's in general don't seem to have much credibility with regards to reliability from what I gather. Happy to be proved wrong
That era of Laguna, 2007 onwards are great for reliability, it was the previous generation one; pre-facelift so 2001-2005, that were shockers.Laguna from 2007 is a fantastic car, well built, great diesel engines but it was tainted with the Laguna name and also that sector for anything not German was dieing; and still is. Lease companies didn't want to know it either due having their fingers burnt with the hopelessly unreliable previous generation one.
The Coupe' is a great car, particularly the top of the range with 4 wheel steer, however it has a jiggly ride and the front seat base is a tad too short.
I've had one of these for just over 3 years now, the GT180 dCi version, and love it. Reliability has been first rate, just needing regular servicing as you would any other car. Responds really well to DPF removal and a remap too ( and before anyone says anything, I know the DPF should be on for MOT ). 125000 miles and counting...

These are one of the current 'under the radar' bargains in the market.
You can grab a low mileage 180bhp GT model for next to nothing and they look really nicely appointed.
Handsome car IMO, especially round the rear quarters. Its got a whiff of Aston Martin about it. The front is a bit more, er, French...but at least not as gopping as the faces Peugeot grafted onto their cars of similar vintage. Was it this model of Laguna that also got trick rear-wheel steer too?You can grab a low mileage 180bhp GT model for next to nothing and they look really nicely appointed.

totally agree regarding 2007+. I did some homework before buying one (since sold) and it was a solid, spacious and economical car at a price that was half that of an equivalent Passat. id have one again in a heartbeat.Laguna from 2007 is a fantastic car, well built, great diesel engines but it was tainted with the Laguna name and also that sector for anything not German was dieing; and still is.
