I went to the Westfield garage more than 20 years to buy one. sales guy took me out in their demonstrator. same colour but with a Vauxhall 2.0 16v engine in. what a car it was.

my Dad thought it was too fast for me frown ended up with a oak green GTi instead smile
Redtop powered cars are fun smile

Made some progress tonight

Removed some bodywork
Drained the coolant
Removed manifold,downpipe and exhaust
Removed oil catch tank
Removed all coolant hoses

Started labelling up the wires for the new owner of the engine for when he collects.

Will make some more progress each night.

I had exactly the same experience, same car, also more than 20 years ago when my mate's dad was buying one to build. I remember the test drive vividly! THese cars do put a huge smile on your face, even as a passenger.

They do put a huge grin on your face.

Especially when it starts raining, great crack.

I don't keep cars long at all and this is the longest I have kept a car in a while.

Tonight I I have

Removed the header tank
Removed coolant hoses
Wiring to the engine swithces etc
Drained the oil
Removed throttle cables from the carbs
Removed alternator just for ease of removing the engine
Removed clutch cable

It's coming along nicely. Need to get a sling/strap tomorrow for lifting the engine out tomorrow night.

Hopefully have the gearbox out over the weekend aswell.

I see you have had a slew of other cars that get rated in the motoring press as drivers cars. Now you have driven the Westfield how do you rate the others?

In my experience cars that are rated as drivers cars may be quicker point to point, or faster or fun to drive at the limit, but the Westfield is fun to drive full stop (excepting maybe a hailstorm or freezing cold rain) from the minute you get in to the minute you get out, plus you don't need to be driving at stupid speeds to enjoy yourself.

I sold my first Westfield to get a Fiat Coupe Turbo, a car that at the time was rated as a drivers car. My driving went down the pan as it was pretty boring unless you pushed it to speeds that would have your license removed.

Good luck with the engine swap!

I've added a list of my cars on the first page with pictures now.

Put it this way I wish I had owned one many years ago.

The S2 RS Turbo was great fun but nothing near this.

This is just another level, it's so raw like a go kart and with it being very light it doesn't han about either.

Tonight's job is going to be hopefully get the engine out then start removal of the gearbox.

My worries for the bike conversion

Routing the exhaust manifold/modifying the manifold
I have seen several ways of mounting the fuel pump
Clutch/Throttle cable mounting

I have a Westfield pedal box in the car from the factory which should help as its mounted in the engine bay if you can call it that.

Made alot more progress last night and today.

Removed the gearbox
Removed the prop
Removed the dash and gauges
Removed the carbon wind deflector
Removed the seats
Removed the Steering column

Need to remove the fuel pump then start taking the arms off, body off etc

Going to pick my cradle up and drop my ZX9 loom off at SKC this weekend, will also order up my prop and gear change kit.

It's such a pleasure to work on, so much space. No seized bolts or scraped knuckles yet.

I've been very busy with this over the passed few days.

Full loom removed
Dash and all switches removed
Car completly stripped

Collected my engine cradle
Ordered a manifold
Ordered some savage switches

Took my ZX9 loom down to SKC on Friday for it to be modified for the car.

Going to take the car down in a couple of weeks and get them to fit the loom for me so it can be adapted for my new switches.

Going to degrease the whole car and all panels, remove the body and cage then start getting everything powdercoated.

Welded on the engine cradle tabs and now have the engine mock fitted (need to remove to powder coat everything)

Getting there quicker than I thought, hoping to have the prop ordered on Monday then get it off to SKC for them to fit the loom, throttle/clutch cable then ill tidy it all up.

Update - Will add the photos when I get home from work.

Engine bay welded up
Engine mounts welded in
Strengthening bars added
Engine by painted

Parts Ordered

TRT Prop shaft
Reverse kit (Arrived)
Sequential Gear kit and billet shifter
Savage switches (Arrived)

Going to fit the engine for the final time this weekend then in a couple of weeks its off to SKC to have them fit the loom etc and get it running.

I've spend ages working on this and have really enjoyed it.

Would like to tackle something bigger like a Ultima Build or something a bit crazy like that.

Lovely car history there!

E46 M3 & Evo 8/9 have always been my realistic dream cars, although I'm not quite there yet!

Out of interested which did you prefer? Must admit the white Evo looks stunning in your pictures smile

E46 M3

Different power to the Evo of course but the E46 M3 has been the best car I have owned.

I will own another but they seem to be rotten to death of have subframe issues.

Interesting! Thanks.

Never thought of an E92? They're actually my favourite looking M car I think... just a bit pricey for me at the moment.

I thought about it years ago and went to look at one with the intention of buying it but thought it was a "bit soft" if that makes sense.

They look cracking tho.

This afternoon I did a little bit more.

Engine/Cradle has now been bolted into place for the final time
Manifold fitted
Link pipe is being welded tomorow for my exhaust

Ordered new steering rack gaitors
Ball joints

Getting very close now smile

Was working on it again the other night.

Noticed steering rack gaitors were split, removed the tie roads and managed to strip the threads on them somehow.

Not to worry as I ordered up new tie roads, steering rack gators, upper and lower ball joints and new polybushes (probably doesn't need them but why not)

So today I collect

New battery
Steering rack gaitors
Ball joints
Tie rods

Need to sort out a new carbon dash panel
New harnesses

Getting closer now, it's cost alot more than I thought but then again it's not a project unless it's gone over budget as such.

Cannot wait to get it running.

Made a fair bit of progress.

Fitted

New tie rod
Steering gaitor
Had the link pipe and akrapovic bike can welded up.
Also used a pipe bender to bend the link pipe a bit as I have put my engine at a different angle so there isn't as much pressure on the prop.
Refitted the steering column and wheel
Refitted the radiator
Got a small car battery since I am running a electric reverse.

Will fit the drivers seat then the car is ready to head off to SKC to have

Modified loom fitted
Reverse kit fitted
Prop fitted
Coolant hoses made
Make the car run

Then I will get it back and tidy it up and possible change the colour of it.

It's cost a bit more than expected but what project doesn't.
