Stunning car before the changes, looks a bit bling / halfords to me now.

You said the 991 comes from the factory with 20's, this isn't a 991 they look like wagon wheels!
The point being though, the 991 is a car of very similar proportions to the 997 so why would 20's look any better?

Are the wheels really £11k?

For those of you wondering where the £11k went.

The car had been car washed to death, so I decided to give a new lease of life with total back to black respray. After this I got a little carried away:

New spoiler
Lowered suspension 25mm
Full poly bush replacement (full suspension and mounts)
Titnted windows at rear
Clutch replacement
New discs and pads all round
New wheels and Pirelli p zeros (325 25 20) on rear
Led light upgrade all round including interior and number plate
New dansk SS exhaust and turbo chrome tips to show a physical change
New style 991 porsche logo in black for rear
Pioneer avic 8'' touch screen sat nav with Apple Play and reversing camera (money well spent)
Full service and cherished plate addition to hide age and the fact it was the same car

The car was previously looking tired, I was bored and wanted to get rid of it. I was tempted by a Jag f type R but have always loved Porsche, this is my 11th 911. I've never had the balls to modify one because Porsche people are all so anal about it. Anyway, I'm so glad I did. To my face I've not had a single negative comment, people regularly take photos of it when it's parked up somewhere. The car is now faster and more taut than before. It's deeper in sound and throtier (I think 997's sound rubbish as standard) and the looks excite me every time I walk towards it again. For me, I've saved myself a very expressive upgrade (or at least prolonged it for a good couple of years. Money well spent I think! The car is like new again and drives better than standard.

Well done for your hard work! I can relate, I have received unnecessary comments for my car (mostly wheels too!) on the forum, however no-one has ever told me anything negative in person, infact people tell me the wheels make the car.

Assuming the £11k isn't just for the wheels?

Not being a 997 spotter I can't tell what else is different.

Nice pictures, what do you use?
I'm guessing you mean the camera? Believe it or not, all were taken at the crack of dawn, low light level using the new iPhone 7 plus. Then using the phone I edit the photos to increase the exposure etc on photoshop for iOS. I'm pretty impressed.

The overall difference between my car now and a standard 997 is dramatic when side by side. Better? well that's just a matter of opinion, hence my original question.

I think in general you're talking to a member of the public who probably isn't likely to know much about a factory standard porsche and a car with different looking wheels. I guess you're getting a straight opinion over a purest hating anything non standard. Neither are wrong but I'm will to bet more people would chose my current car over a mint version of mine before.

I don't dislike the car as it is now, but personally I preferred it 11k ago..

I think the pictures are lovely.

I turned down an offer of £29k at a filling station by another porsche owner, not really because I think it's worth more just that it's exactly what I want and don't want to sell.... I'd pitch it at £30k if I were to sell.

It's 2008 80k c2s Bose heated seats usual bits and all of the extras I've added.

Lovely car.
C2S sweet spot in the range IMHO.

I think it looks awesome wheels included.
Agreed.

Porsche are historically terrible at designing wheels (with only a few exceptions). I don't think there were any 997 Carrera wheels which looked good. (some 997 Carreras came with 19's from the factory anyway)

The 991 is a fair bit bigger than the 997, either that or it's a trick of the light even when they're side by side. The new Cayman has a 20inch wheel option and they look too big on that aswell.

The car looks stunning don't get me wrong but 19's would be better proportionally and definitely better on ride/handling.

When I'm Prime Minister, among the many things I'm going to ban, will be the following:
The use of the word 'rims'
Any wheels larger than 18 inches in diameter.

There are no valid reasons for such large, heavy, ride-destroying, vulgar, unsightly lumps of metal other than an unseemly obsession with style over substance.

Apart from that piffling point, great car OP...
What size wheels have you got on your 996?

You asked for honest opinions! the 991 is quite a bit bigger than the 997 I think?

its your car, you do what you want to it ... I prefer the standard look smile But if we all liked the same it would be rather dull would it not?

Enjoy, its a lovely car and as other have said C2S it the "sweet" spot.

Wheels don't bother me that much tbh, but the rear lights just say "I wanted a second generation 997, but couldn't afford one". Sorry...

Harsh.

But if all you can afford or justify is £20's on a car but the one you want is £80-100k then it's not going to happen.

I would have spent 11k on making the engine bulletproof and doing a mechanical refresh and sending it to a proper detailer.. love the rear spoiler and wheels but yhey would have come later.
