Great thread! I have a Passat b5.5 pd130 Highline estate which I use for towing and moving crap. The exterior on this one is in much better condition than mine. De badging looks good

This has been used for towing and had stuff chucked on the roof.

One of the rear doors has a large scratch on and the roof has numerous scratches on.

Think it must have done a fair amount of towing for the simple fact it needs a clutch and dual mass sub 100K but I can live with that.

I love threads like this, I've had three b5 passat estates now, they're really nice cars! I just like keeping old bangers going I think... there must be something wrong with me...
I just had to sell my passat as I'm in Aus for the year. I paid £300 for it and aside from a split turbo pipe, it was spot on! I was sad to let that one go... Ah well, I'll probably have another!

All I'm seeing are B5.5's being broken for parts.

Not sure how many are still circulating of the original B5's

Be good to know.

Had a delivery at work of a couple of cleaning bits and while work was quiet gave the car a clean and hoover and a wipe down inside.

Finally have my DMF, Clutch kit, Bolts, Rear main oil seal, Spigot bearing & Gearbox oil. Will get this done the weekend approaching.

Have now started sticking some 2 stroke in with each tank.

Will update soon. I picked up my bike frame from my mates body shop, while dropping off the alloy wheels to be painted. Once the bike is all put together and built the car will be driven less.

This bike is gonna be coming up to around the total I paid for the Passat

I love how you're refurbishing this but why remove the rear wiper?

As said on edition, love this and keep the updates coming. What lens are you using for the majority of pictures?

It didn't work anyway and I prefer the look.

Win win for me.

Hi, watching this thread with interest (I have a B5.5 on a 53 plate!) and am interested to know about the 2 stroke addition. After doing some Googling on the subject, some say it is good, some say it is bad but I've only found one 'good' (but no way of checking it) article stating it is bad, so do you have any evidence to say it is good?
Article stating adding 2-stroke oil is bad

I'm genuinely interested to know as I have some 2 stroke in my shed for the chainsaws etc!

I've only heard good feedback or people who never noticed a difference. Not heard any feedback to relate toit being a negative.

I've only done it the once so far and I was almost certain upon start up it was quieter. Think its back to normal 100 miles later.

I will give it a few goes before I come
To any conclusions.

maybe running a car on heating oil, but diesel has all the additives and lubrication already. going for the premium diesel fuel is better if you like that.
i find just changing the oil works fine.

I already use V-power. I'm using on the basis of helping lubrication to so much additives.

Will finish off the bottle and see.

Yeah it's crazy how many of them have disappeared in the last couple of years, you really have to work to find a good one. Even then, buying one with a few issues and getting them sorted is still WAY cheaper than owning a newer car. You might not get much return on your investment, but if you consider depreciation on a newer car and the cost of parts etc. it probably works out better to keep an older car running (that's my logic anyway).

I think these were the high point in the Passat development, earlier ones were a bit utilitarian, later ones got more complex and problematic, styling was the best of all of them, plus the PD engines had plenty of grunt, like what you are doing with it.

Great thread (I too enjoy these types of threads!) but why are you putting 2-stroke in the fuel? Won't it just gum up your injectors and cat?

Thanks man, I completely agree although there are a bunch of B5.5 parts I want to stick on the B5. But all in good time.

Thanks.

The opposite. Helps keeping the fuel system lubricated and burn more efficiently, supposedly. A lot of people swear by it and I thought I would try it out for myself.

I have always been a fan of the B5.5 and owned three before now. Great cars, you can sling everything in them, they do 50mpg, not hideously slow in PD130 guise, and comfortable. Not sure I would stick two stroke in the diesel though. My last one had 300k km on it, and was perfectly fine, and only ran on cheap supermarket diesel.

As others have said, I've also got a bit of a soft spot for "normal" cars that are well cared for. Good work!

I'm just testing it out. No harm in doing so. If I don't notice a difference I will just not bother once the bottle is finished.

Thanks, it will be modified but nothing crazy ha
