650s - imported.
Discussion
After having my original thread removed - sorry Mods - where someone suggested a couple of 650's that were delivery mileage I have asked the seller and they have been imported.
What's the consensus on these? Will they be harder to shift in the future. Does it make any difference?
Thanks
Doris

Yes that's why they are cheaper in the first place.
I must admit they were cheap as year old unregistered cars but didn't realise they were imports. Glad that explains the price.
Bit naughty the seller has not advertised as imported cars as it distorts the market
You cant have it both ways. Buy cheap sell cheaper

Interestingly when I had a chat with a renowned McLaren reseller (no clues needed) he did mention Imports were generally seen as worth a tad less, I have absolutely no idea why on a British car that is nearly new and not very old??
I could understand that with an imported car it might be difficult to verify the history if it had some time/miles under its belt? Maybe that's the stigma? There certainly isn't any spec or detail differences that I'm aware of with McLarens. Though having typed that maybe there is for cars built for a harsher/more different environment.
My car is LHD though first registered here as new and to Euro spec (there's the hint again??) and other than the Lhd/Rhd cost adjustment there wouldn't be any difference.
I guess it will therefore depend where they were originally exported to and what they've been doing (verified?) whilst sitting around unsold.
ETA the old adage still applies, once you've identified the type of car you want always buy on provenance and condition and value accordingly. Your future purchaser will.

Thanks for the replies so far.
The ones referenced previously have been imported from Singapore, what difference that has on spec I'm unsure.
As mentioned with an older car and history I can see it making a difference whereas with <100 miles on them I'm intrigued as they seem to have literally done nothing but sit around.
Any more views would be welcome!

Still one of the first questions asked by my insurer- is it an import ?
Lots of cars get moved between Singapore and the U.K., my understanding is spec is same as the UK, I.e underseal, fog lights, tuned for same fuel etc etc....
Any saving made when buying, will be lost when it comes to selling......whether there is any logic to it or not being an import will impact values for at least 4 or 5 years of ownership.....

I agree. There are usually minor spec differences between country's due to legislation and environmental conditions etc so I doubt its exactly the same even if it is RHD.Lots of cars get moved between Singapore and the U.K., my understanding is spec is same as the UK, I.e underseal, fog lights, tuned for same fuel etc etc....

Regardless as an import the insurance will be more expensive for a start and rightly or wrongly the "import stigma" will always apply to anyone looking to buy it afterwards.
You may well save £10k upfront but just budget to lose the same on resale so unless you plan to keep it forever is it worth it.
Try trading it back to the dealer as an import and you will be told its worth less for sure.
Now knowing they are imports, which explains the low price, personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for the sake of saving £10k

What's the views on the 'limited edition' MSO 650's?
Don't seem to command much of a premium yet have some nice extras on them.
D
If you like the colour and MSO spec it seems a good buy 2nd hand. Wouldn't want to pay the premium for new from factory but 2nd hand the rarity will probably see you get your money back on resale and maybe a bit better longer term. What's the views on the 'limited edition' MSO 650's?

Wouldn't buy one just for that reason but its a bonus if you like the car anyway

What about £15k? Or £17.5k or £20k or .......There will be a number and that number will vary person to person
On these imported McLarens, what warranty are they offering and who's warranty is it?

Will there be a compromise on the warranty with an import. Many moons ago I bought a brand new 147 Alfa as an import from Ireland, at the time I only got the 2 years manufacturers warranty, not the 2 years manufacturers plus one year dealer warranty had I bought from the local dealer. Similar with my current Volvo which was bought as pre-registered stock, registered by the Volvo dealer to get their sales target group discount although not an import. Bought with only 19 miles on the clock so effectively 'new' but was 6 months old so only had 2 1/2 years worth of warranty although at £9,500 less than list price it was a saving of circa 30%.
On these imported McLarens, what warranty are they offering and who's warranty is it?
The ad suggest the warranty is not the full 3 years and I'm guessing its when McLaren billed the car to the country it was exported to originally which was over a year ago with one of the cars and 6 months ago the other. On these imported McLarens, what warranty are they offering and who's warranty is it?
I believe you are correct RamboLambo!
They do look very good value with the spec they have but like what's been said it will always be the first question.
If it wasn't an issue I'd have assume they would have been snapped up by now if the recent purchases on here are anything to go by!
Love the red one that has been purchased on here recently.

If you are after bucket seats and like black the MSO Limited edition is the one to buy even if its £10k more than a regular 2014 car. The seats and diffuser are worth more than that difference anyway. I really like the red tbh but keep looking at that car.
Let's see what come up for sale.
Still in two minds on whether lift is important. Whites not an option and the ''lairy'' yellow/green/oranges don't seem all that popular come resale time.
Then there are the different carbon options.....front/back/sides/interior.

If it helps, I decided that whilst "lift" might not be desperate it would help sell the car. So imagine my surprise to find I actually did need it on a drive I went into 2nd time I drove it, would have gone in, but was scrapping !!!! OK, bit of an extreme situation but interesting none the less.

If you have the carbon exterior pack including the front splitter its essential IMHO . The thought of scraping that carbon would stress me right out and I still drive like my granny when I come to speed humps even with it engaged.Let's see what come up for sale.

Can't be many cars that didn't spec it as standard. Big mistake for resale
I was offered a UK zero mile car today, pre-reg by dealer (66 plate) super high spec for within 6% of the price of these imports (and that's before negotiations).
For me I think the gap between 'like for like' proper UK car (from franchised dealership) and grey import from independent would need to be closer to 15% discount - so ideally closer to £170k (I appreciate this might be unrealistic)
