Ha thats wicked.

My mum had a bog standard 1.6 astra, to look at it was a bore.

For it to fly off like this will, would be hilarious. Good work smile

Great plan, great execution, resulting in a perfect sleeper. Now just needs one rotten wheel trim on each side, but on different axles, and as someone already mentioned, a set of standard headlights with yellow UV fade/cloudiness biggrin

That is fantastic! Please add some wheel trims and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf biggrin

This car is fantastic.

Would there be a nice set of Vauxhall wheel trims to suit the larger 16 inch wheels? Also, how come the whole loom had to be swapped behind the dash - You'd think that most things Astra would be plug and play?

As I read the post, I'd have bet every penny I have to my name that someone would check then post something to that effect.

Just surprised it wasn't LiquidKnight!

Interesting and fun project OP smile
All very well but there is a long running thread here of people almost unilaterally objecting to cars that have had engine upgrades done and not declaring to insurance / DVA, particularly because it could encourage subsequent owners to not declare the mods and thus effectively be driving an uninsured car and / or cause an accident that wouldnt have happened with the original engine in (extra speed / brakes not upgraded, etc)

Whilst I am sure the O/P has it insured correctly - and i dont think any of us object to the government not getting their "fair share" of road tax on this one - it would be prudent (all of us being responsible adults) to ensure that cars like this are registered accordingly, lest some day something like this dozes in to the back of you, being driven by some 17 year old and insured in his mums name as a 1.6....

I LOVE cars like this. I LOVE cars with the "wrong" engine in them (relative to public perception). I've had various "over engined" cars in the past and currently I've a S40 T5 with 270BHP and it looks for all the world like a humble 1.8 petrol or 2.0D. I've also had a 2.8 VR6 engined caddy van in the past which was fantastic. Even our A45 carries it off to an extent because to 95% of other drivers it looks like an A160CDI. rolleyes

Greate engine swap on the Astra - and hats off to the ability of the O/P to do the work.

I'd do as proposed - stick a set of 16 inch genuine Vauxhall wheel trims on it (can be bought cheap enough off off ebay) and keep it otherwise as is.

Ah, YOU had the VR6 caddy! I remember seeing that smile

Yeah, I hear what you're saying re legalities and such, and I do agree. Was making a flippant comment about how I just knew someone would go digging smile

Excellent work, but having it taxed as a 1.6 is a bit naughty.

All in hand folks... I did the swap at the end of November, went straight off to Sweden with work for 3 weeks, back for 2 over Christmas and then been in Spain since the New Year. It's insured correctly, just waiting to sort out the DVLA side when I get back to the UK cool

OP, if you do want a set of wheel trims, I've got some I'm not using that came with the Saab steelies I've got on my Astra H. Not sure if it's any good to you but if you want them, you can have them for nothing. Not genuine Vauxhall - some aftermarket generic ones that are branded as Vauxhall

Cheers for the offer, but I'm not planning on fitting any and if I did change my mind, it would definitely be for OEM ones to achieve maximum sleeper effect!

UPDATES...

Standard grill back on. The Irmscher one got obliterated in my attempts to open the bonnet after the cable snapped!

Finally fitted my boost gauge properly... Keeping an eye on things!

And whilst I was away with work for 3 weeks, a good friend (who did the engine swap with me) fitted a set of Bilstein OEM dampers to the Dogbus. It has literally transformed the car, so surefooted now and handles beautifully!
