Thanks - it helps to have some info to benchmark against. I've got a budget of £5k max which I was hoping would cover getting it right back to a shell, the rust fixing and a complete respray.

I'd say that was a bit optimistic if there's much rust to fix.

Possibly. It's most likely just the rear arches to do. There are a few bubbling areas elsewhere, but more a case of just grinding it down to bare metal. The lower edge of the boot lid is shot to pieces but I'd probably replace that rather than try to get it fixed.

I had 2 new rear arches welded in, the actual panel cost £48 a side. And yeah like you say might just be better off buying another boot for that.

Right so got the car back from body shop, I've managed to fit the fibreglass boot and wing with the aero catches bit of a nightmare stilll needs a bit of adjustment. Really happy with the paint even though it was raining.

Taken the front splitter off fot the time being!

The serious stuff can now start Engine, suspension and running gear!

So well on with this build now. Done donnington 4 times this year and cadwell.

In the first instance had issues with the S50b30 engine I fitted. The head gasket was gone. So I’ve rebuilt the top end of the engine. Goes well now.

I also drove it off the drive with the bonnet unlatched hence the silver bonnet.

very happy with how it’s all turned out. Just booked Nurburgring trackday in October.

I will be changing my diff ratio to a 3.64 as I’m running 3.23 standard evo diff at the moment and it’s a bit too tall.

now feel free to shoot me down here, but wouldn't it have been more economical to start with an m3 first? even a previously tracked m3 so you got the cage included...

the end result does look nice though!!! credit to you..

Because no E36 M3 had an S54 and the E36 is lighter with a better chassis.
