Not often, but strangely, when they do, you seem to see two or three. If you're after a V8S don't hang about, go and have a look. You may not like it but you'll kick yourself if it turns out to be a nice one and you miss it.

They are becoming rare and therefore more desirable and therefore more expensive.

What V8s4me has said seems to be true, when i was looking i couldn't find one for love nor money, when i eventually found mine 2 more came up for sale within a fortnight. I guess rising prices gets people thinking, they seem a little less reluctant to let them go.

Good luck with the viewing. I too have had a few different Tvrs but the nostalgia of the V8s really is very special.

Had a V8S before the Cerbera, if I had enough garage space I'd have another.

Prices are going up and at the end of the day, it's worth what someone's prepared to pay. For that money, I'd expect it to be a vary nice example. The only way to know is to go and have a look.

Hi Andy, there has been a discussion about V8S prices recently and I have been monitoring them. The few that have come up have been in good condition (owners are now really valuing them)and all seem to have gone a bit over 15K. So the price is right if it is indeed a sorted car.

Now if you decide you cannot possibly be greedy enough to keep the S3 and the V8S...let me know about the S3!!!!

Value depends on where you're perspective lies

- buying and they all look expensive
- selling and they all look cheap

On a serious note, I see all TVR prices "firming up".

I sold my S3 last year and bought my V8S shortly beforehand . 3 changed hands in quick succession at that time but as Joe has said, they don't come along that often especially as numbers are small and they're being cherished more by current owners.

There's S's tend to trickle through regularly in small numbers.

It really depends on what's been done to it. For a car with a complete ground up restoration with a fully refurbished chassis, running gear and a rebuilt engine, add in a top class paint job and re-trim, and to the right buyer, he could be asking around £20K. That's on the basis that it probably cost him £30K to get it that good and assuming all the work was carried out professionally and is fully documented. Maybe work back from there?

But running a V8S costs a fraction of what it costs to run a Cerb, and any 'S' is a proper sports car laugh

Nah, that's bottom acceptable Cerb money Imhe.
As for running costs i think the V8S was probably half if not more so than the Cerb...

I've not owned another TVR but my V8S (sold to a fellow Pistonheader who either forgot our gentleman's agreement that I would have first refusal if he sold it or was a bit of a (hello ML), depending on your point of view) was the only car I regret selling.

Shouldn't encourage you as am after another and are not many around but they are fantastic cars and I would love another. If you see a good one, buy it - or PM me the details!

Correct on both counts. My Cerb nearly bankrupted me in bus fares in 4 years. Superb car to drive, but the S is just "sportier" on public roads.

If someone has spent £30k on resto and thats on top of the price of the car, surely theres no way they would sell for £20k.

Thats probably why there are no resto ones for sale and few others for sale as owners buy these for the love of them.

Nobody would probably restore one with thoughts of selling - certainly not at £20k?

End of day they are fabulous cars, a hoot to drive and sound like the dogs.......why sell?

I know that I certainly wouldn't entertain £20k for mine, would be a long way off.

I think those of us that have restored our cars and poured money into them over a period of time know we are unlikely to see a return on all of that outlay. Anyone lucky enough to pick up an already fully restored car at below the cost of doing the work can feel pretty happy (smug smile) about it.

It's always better financially to let someone else have all the expense and grief of restoring a car, but then for some of us that's part of the fun in owning one.

Just do the numbers:-

Engine rebuild = £4,500

Paint job say £3,000

Retrim Say £3,500 (maybe a bit less, maybe a lot more depending on what you want)

Chassis rebuild Say £4,000 (because you’ll always want a bit extra done, and prices are under review)

Plus all the additional jobs eg wheel refurbishment & Tyres, say £1,000. Plus labour eg removing/refitting engine etc say £3,000

Then add in the cost of a V8S in average condition say £8,000 if you’re lucky and what does that give?

Plus all the other incidental expenses, say another £2,000. So that's £29,000.

Obviously if you have the skills and facilities to do a lot of the work yourself that cost comes down significantly.

Is anyone going to pay nearly £30k for a V8S? Really?
