I´m in the process of restoring/refreshing my E39 M5.

Has been my daily driver since I bought it in 2005.
From now on it will just be a summer / good weather car wink

Took it to the paintshop in December:

List of to do´s:

Complete respray
Replace both front doors (rust)
Replace boot (rust)
Fix various rust spots
Fix various door dings
Replace badges
Replace kidneys
Replace front "Hamann" "CF" lip
Replace boot lip spoiler CF
Replace roof spoiler CF
Polish front lights
New rear lights
New Fog lights + covers
New air filters
Brembo calipers will get repainted
Hamann wheels will get a refresh
Leather will get a refresh (small tear & wear)

The plan is to get it back into it´s 2007 shape:

Has been supercharged since 2006. Approx. 600hp and 700Nm.

Good to see you still have the car OP, I was actually browsing M5s in the classifieds the other day and was wondering if you still had this beast. Looking forward to seeing it when it's out of the bodyshop.

Is there any advantage of running a twin supercharged set up as appose to just a single supercharger (apart from the power increase of course)?

Here are a couple of pics of the setup:

It´s not from Hamann. It was sold and installed by a company in Sweden in 2006.
They are not in business any more.

The reason for 2 superchargers is that at the time they didn´t have big enough Rotrex´s for a single setup.

Specs / info:

Twin Rotrex C30-74 superchargers
Front mount intercooler
Steel sleeved block
Forged CP pistons
10.5:1 compression
SS Headers
SS race cats
TUBI Rumore
UUC 11" V12 cerametallic clutch + flywheel
UUC EVO3 SSK w/DSSR
Brembo GT4 brakes front/back
KWv3's
Angel Eyes + Angelibrights
Celis
19" Hamann PG2´s
Strongstrut front Strut Brace
Dynawin headunit
CF interior trim

Good work. I don't really like BMWs but I've always wanted one of these. They just look right to me with a lovely engine.

Well his is awesome biggrin

Slightly o/t question- the pipe that goes over the right hand wheel arch that can be seen in the pics with the wing removed- is that an overflow for the screenwash? May explain why I got a wet foot the other day when I topped my screenwash up but all the washers appeared to still work!

Dry cool. I have one c30-94 on my car and that's ace, so I can imagine 2 Rotrex is a nice experience!

WoW this is beautiful what a difference a bit of paint makes.

These cars have some serious power at standard let alone with a monster of a charger.

Will be keeping an eye on this blog.

That is awesome.

I think we will see more of this approach with special cars like the E39 M5, rather than buying newer people will be doing what amounts to almost a homebrew "Singer", like planes and boats get a refit, instead of throwing stuff away it will get refurbished and improved.

Haven't even read the thread yet, but these two lines made me make a cup of tea, and sit down for a good read, and a good eyeballing at your photos. I like it when people run a performance car as their daily driver, and properly live with it. Cars weren't made to sit still!

And even better that you've decided to reward the car for its hard service, with a restoration.

Good work sir!

The cost to properly supercharge of these with Kit that doesn't suffer heatsoak, upgrade brakes and suspension, make the engine able to cope with supercharging, plus buying in the first place is about the cost of an F10 M5.

Maybe, but then you'll be stuck with a F10 wink

I'd not be too disappointed with that. No more rust chasing, faster, newer. Id swap my e39 for an f10 any day.

Yes something to do with the screenwash.
