I'd not be too disappointed with that. No more rust chasing, faster, newer. Id swap my e39 for an f10 any day.
I would never swap my E39 for the F10.

Have too many good memories in this car, it´s part of the family, will stay.

Yep. Not everyone wants an automatic only, bigger, depreciating M5 with a downsized engine that needs aural enhancement.

The E39 M5 did 190mph delimited but otherwise stock, so hardly lacking away from forum banter. It's still the best M5 for many people, including myself.

Tough to beat a well sorted, supercharged E39 M5 as a daily driver, if you are a true car nut !

....but there comes a time when you just have to take them out of daily duty ...out of respect !

+1 It's a proper M car, the F10?... yuck!

That is awesome.

I think we will see more of this approach with special cars like the E39 M5, rather than buying newer people will be doing what amounts to almost a homebrew "Singer", like planes and boats get a refit, instead of throwing stuff away it will get refurbished and improved.
The cost to properly supercharge of these with Kit that doesn't suffer heatsoak, upgrade brakes and suspension, make the engine able to cope with supercharging, plus buying in the first place is about the cost of an F10 M5.
Yeah, didnt say it was cost effective, its a labour of love by the looks of it, am sure the OP could run to an F10 if he is doing all this but dont think that is the point somehow.

It's all debatable. What happens if cars over a certain age get banned from the roads?

Yeah, not sure banning all classics, vintage and veterans is going to happen ?

The classic car industry is a big money and work generator for the country, I cant imagine many people would be in favour of banning older cars entirely except miserable, joyless, hate filled uber greenies and nobody really takes much notice of them, the political dont want to ps off millions of registered voters, not everyone has a classic but there are a lot out there, someone using an old car a few hundred miles a year is not much of a polution problem in a world with factories, airliners, trucks and buses belching out crap by the tonne.

Some progress.

Need to source another trunk lip spoiler, the one I purchased didn´t fit properly. Also need to have the new license plates remade - cannot handle the letters not being centered!

The refresh looks great although I'm not a fan of the carbon and prefer the factory wheels but each to their own and all that.

Absolutely loving this, the perfect daily driver. What could you possibly have found to be its replacement?

Stock wheels are ok but are only 18" and are a bh to clean.

Final wash before I drove it home from the paintshop.

Only minor stuff left - waiting for parts!

I'm having an untypically an off-colour week but this has made it bearable - about time this had a PH thread as it's clearly one of the most epic E39s alive. Even if the aesthetics of the carbon / wheels don't work for you, surely you can appreciate a Spanish 600bhp M5 that gets used as it should (including getting crossed up for fun on the Nordschleife)?

If you can't, you need to hand in your PH card at the door in my opinion.

Credit to the OP, just as the E30 is clap

Fawlty Towers reference wink

"Spanish Box" = "Manuel" = three pedals and stick hehe

Explaining "Spanish Box" to a non-PH friend recently was entertaining...
