Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help - I'm desperate to get this sorted.
I have a 987 Porsche Boxster that's developed a problem with closing the roof.
It's all ok when putting the roof down but when putting the roof back up it stops about 3-4 times, so have to re-press the switch each time it stops to get the roof to fully close. I have asked a Porsche specialist garage to look at the problem and they initially though it was the switch but have now advised that it could be a micro switch under the gearbox .. I really don't want to ask them to proceed as I'm concerned with how much labour cost this will involve and if it's not the issue it's money wasted
Any ideas/suggestions would be really appreciated

I take it you mean it stops and you have to release the button and press it again as on mine I press and hold the button until it is fully closed?

If so it doesn't sound like a microswitch to me, why would you releasing then repressing the switch affect a microswitch I would expect it only to be activated at either end of the travel.

When they say under the gearbox I would expect they mean the gearbox on the roof not the transmission so should be less scary in terms of labour.

Not sure if the motor has any sort of overload in case the roof jams, if they do then I think the roof has gas struts to assist or could something require lubrication.

Not got much experience with the roofs just working on first principals.

Good luck

Thanks Nigel
Yes, it stops then I have to take my finger off the switch and basically start again .... tends to do this 3-4 times on the way up.
Unsure whether to take it away from the Porsche specialist and go to a main Porsche garage and see what they make of it .. I'm currently into the specialist for 1.5 hours labour - god only knows what they charge per hour and no further forward with it

I have a vague recollection of this sort of thing being discussed before and I remember talk of a overload cut out........

Oh wait that was when I had a Maserati! However I would guess the same problem is due to the same issues and is solved in the same way.

Grease everything that looks like it needs greasing and try to get the mechanism moving more freely
