Car must be down about 25bhp now you've taken off that ludicrous cone filter??
up.

Cone filters pull hot air from inside the engine bay = bad for power.

I'm sensing just a hint of sarcasm from Hugh right now...

I always had a bit of a soft spot for these. Not sure why because the lights always liked they belonged in a Halfords shop window.
To be fair, Lexus got there first with the silver lights and the aftermarket items for Civics, 306s, Rover 25s etc., inspired by the Lexus design, followed shortly afterwards.

Why on earth would you swap this for a Rover 25!!

Great buy
Don't think he had a choice as the girlfreind wanted the Rover. rolleyes
Can't understand why people would sell their car because their OH wants them to have something else.
Especially a rover 75.
It wouldn't be quite so bad if it was a Rover 75 but why would anyone want to switch from an IS200 to a 25?!

Got a bit done today. Sorted the camber issue out. The cambered top suspension arms are adjustable and were set to max camber so have set to the middle setting now. Only done one side as need a tyre on the other side so will take that off tommorow and set the camber at the same time. Also started putting the engine bay back how it should be. Still waiting for the other bits to arrive but the air box came today so stuck that on.Checked everything still works and it all seems to apart from the stereo, even the Air con is still nice and cold. Has Xenon upgraded headlights too.

Before

Thats better

Did the cone filter make for better induction noise at all? That's the only possible reason I could see to fit it, given the expected detrimental effect on engine power. scratchchin

I'd have refused. If she made a big issue of it I'd have dumped her.
She must look like a supermodel or have other "special talents" for him to go along with that. For his sake I hope she's worth it!

Couldn't hear any induction noise and it's only 150 bhp to begin with so needs all the help it can get. The Lexus air box has a cold air pipe that goes just above the rad and feeds in cold air. Probably a sort of ram air when moving so is a pretty good design. Would benifit from a K&N panel filter but that's for its next owner to so if they want.

No matter what she looks like, somebody somewhere is putting up with her st.

The best antidote to controlling behaviour is a straightforward "no" in my experience.

On the other hand, I am divorced, so....

I had one of these for 9 months in 2009. Had 125,000 miles on it but it was still so solid and reliable. Had a coming together with a wet roundabout and nearby ditch one evening and it was a write off. I was truly sorry to see it go. Great car, even if it didn't have much pace.

I ran it with a K&N panel filter. Made a slight difference to the engine note and throttle response. Once I'd fitted it I followed instructions on a Lexus forum to reset the engine management so it could recalibrate itself to suit the improved airflow.

Probably a load of bcensoreds thinking about it.

Always loved mine even though it went 7 years ago. Do the ecu reset after changing the airbox so the car learns quicker.

Really hoping to get an isf next year.

Watch for negative camber wear, wheels in motion were the people to see, I think it was a guy called Tony.

With that price it is a steal. I owned is200 automatic about 2,5 years. Propably the best car what i have ever owned. At least best made, build quality is stunning. Nice engine, i did run with premium fuel and it did give little bit of more oomph. It was a very nice car to own and drive.

To be fair she was probably embarrassed to be seen in car with with tinted lights, debadged grill and weird cambered lowered suspension. If the car was burning through money as well............I can see her point. My mums car is an old Daewoo Lanos, not a great car at all, but tidy and respectable. Seriously, the only thing that has gone wrong with it in the last 19 years is the rear view mirror fell off and the sun visor has gone floppy. I imagine she sees her dads Rover 25 in the same way and just wants a normal, under the radar and dependable car.

That seems to have cleaned up beautifully.
These were well thought of back in the day. A quality item that will go on past 250,000 miles if cared for.

Great cars these, had one in the family and only problem was corroding alloys - yours look to have been refurbished thumbup

Thought it was a great car to drive although ruined by crap auto, the engine maybe thirsty and low on power but it's so old school it makes a nice noise and ought to be very reliable! Bargain!

To be fair the exhaust isn't to bad. It's a Janspeed back box and doesn't look much different to standard. Log book came back on Thursday and I've put the rest of the air box on so it's on ebay now. £300 Start and no reserve. Let er rip tater chip!

The UK spec IS200 is a 6cyl, the JDM car has a 4 cylinder (Beams) engine.
The Altezza RS200 came with a high revving 4cyl 3S-GE engine making 200 odd.

The Altezza AS200 came with the same (more or less anyway. I think the Tezza got a fully mechanical throttle and a different ECU) 6cyl 1G-FE engine making 160 odd.

Got this from a work mate yesterday. He was saying how his girlfriend was fed up of how much time and money he spends on it and she wants them to have her Dads old Rover 25. Said it had to be gone by the end of the week so he was just going to scrap it. I thought hang on that's far to good to scrap so cheekily offered him the £100 the scrappys would have given him.
So what have i got for my money? Well it's a pretty tidy IS200 SE with 3 months Mot left, 160k on the clock, its lowered on 6 month old coilovers with some special camber inducing front suspension arms that make the front wheels look collapsed in. It's got a Jan speed back box and a ridiculous air intake system on it that in sure does nothing to add power. It did have a massive sound system but now has a non working head unit and no speakers. Been an Se it has an Electric tilt and slide sunroof, Half leather heated seats. and some other stuff and it all seems to still work.
So here it is as i got it.
Had to spend the night outside my garage as it was too low to go on my driveway at the front of my house.

Are you on the FB groups at all? There's a guy who breaks these and is a good source of parts.

That's an utter bargain.

I bought a V70 2.4 Estate last weekend for £125 - MOT had just ran out.

Seems spot on mechanically, drives well, but needs a damn good clean and possibly brake pads for next MOT.

For now, it is literally being used as a shed to store things in!

Plenty of bargains out there if you look in the right places.
