What is "the one that got away"?
2 is a Ferrari 288GTO in 2006 for GBP 160k.
Ouch

In car terms, specifically what's already on the market, what itch is left to scratch?
1 on that list is the McLaren F1 -- had the opportunity to buy one for GBP 750k back in 2004 and thought it was a ridicules amount of money for a car.

Double (treble even) ouch.

If only we all had crystal balls......

Nothing to add other than to say fk me what a garage, awesome collection you have sir.

A couple of questions if I may:

- your list of cars seems predominantly of the modern super/hypercar variety, given you made mention of enjoying driver involvement do you have any interest/desire in any classic cars?

- you mention you’ve blogged about experiences of cars you’ve owned, could you possible share a link (or DM if against the rules) to where these blogs are hosted?

Thankyou for giving an insight in to what it must be like to fulfil a common childhood dream coolthumbup

I have owned a few classic cars including a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, Ferrari 365BB, Ferrari 512BB, Ferrari 308 GTB, Alfa Spider 1750. Another Daytona is tempting but not sure I have the patience anymore to deal with all the challenges of keeping a 40 year old car in good running condition.

has it made any difference to what country you are living in, as to what cars you own/use?

It has to the extent that we have had to sell certain cars when we have moved (F50, XJR-15).

Daily driver is a McLaren 650S Spider. I've been using it as my daily for a bit over 5 1/2 years now.
I appreciate that you have access to considerably more special stuff, but doesn't having something like the 650S as a daily, dilute the experience of the more special cars?

I've always found that having a weekend toy was improved by having something a bit more mundane for the daily stuff. Really made the toy more of an event every time.

I suppose jumping out a 650s into an F50 is still an event, but I find it difficult not to believe that effect isn't diminished somewhat, by driving a 650s everyday. Certainly from my perspective, anyway.

If I had your collection, I'd definitely have something more mundane as a daily.

I actually come at it from the opposite direction, using the 650S Spider on a daily basis makes the commute etc a much more pleasant experience. A 30 minute drive in the 650S Spider is a great way to start any day. I don't think it dilutes the experience, rather it takes something fairly mundane and makes it a bit special.

I’m guessing by the proliferation of them in your collection that generally, McLaren ownership has been a positive experience?
Much has been written about issues with them, usually by people who have not lived with them for long.

Aye, that's a fair point - just a different perspective, I suppose.

McLaren been a very positive experience in terms of both the cars and the people. I've posted blogs documenting all the maintenance costs and reliability history for both the McLaren's and Ferraris so everyone can judge for themselves based on facts. So far we've owned 9 McLarens and 16 Ferraris which I think provides a fairly solid base to evaluate.

Thanks for posting. Impressive collection. What were your thoughts on the XJR15? Did you own it long?

Owned the XJR-15 for about 3 years. It's a really unique car and unlike anything else I have ever driven in both a good and not so good way. It's not a road car at all even though it's road legal. Its an early 90s Le Mans race car with a license plate and it drives like a race car that's been jacked up just enough so it doesn't bottom out on every imperfection in the road. Beautifully built car. The carbon fiber tub is a work of art.
