I'm loving the thread! I really regret that I didn't buy one two years ago and prices have shot up now! But I'm going to get one...

Is there a huge difference between an ST2 and ST3? Or would I be disappointed if I had an ST2 with some of the extras but not all? I'd really want heated seats. Sat Nav is a like not a must.

Also, I'm 6ft 4 and 20ish stone...am I mad? I'd need room behind the passenger for my other halves son (six) but behind me can be minimal leg room if needed.

Anything to he aware of when I buy one? Looking at below £10,000.

Generally ST3s hold value better, keyless entry (ideally look for ones with upgraded alarms!), Powerfold mirrors I think too. Can't recall all of the changes but a google should assist.

I'm 5ft 6 and 18 stone and it is still very comfortable in the Recaros.

I'm running Goodyear Asym 6 tyres which felt much better than the PS4s and they held up well on track too!

Would suggest the Eibach lowering springs, goodridge braided hoses and the CP2-E map from Collins. This is what I am running and it held up great on track and fun on the road but still does 40mpg on a good run. Ideally I would also suggest a diff as it scrabbles a bit without the torque limiter even in sport mode!
Thanks Dan.

Assymetric 6's ordered. I am fan of this tyre and have used all the previous iterations on my wife's 330i, and one of my previous cars - an Mondeo ST220.

The CP2-E map is on the list for the next two months. I will first fit an ITG induction kit (possibly this month).
I have read that a stage 1 intercooler helps tap into more of the power from the remap, but is it necessary in the UK? I am thinking that ambient air temps remain on the cold side for 6-8 months of the year possibly letting the stock intercooler do it's job. If not, I will buy one, but just wondering how necessary it is.

I know some people fit Mountune springs (made by Eibach, but a different part to the Eibach Pro's). Is there any difference between Mountune or Eibach Pro springs? Importantly, do lowering springs reduce body roll but keep the nice handling characteristics of the stock car?

If you plan to track it for sure an intercooler is better. It loves this hot weather atm, when cold it still runs fine but the benefits outweigh anything else and means better power more reliably. The ITG is a bit louder and whistleyer but good, I would say the investment in the turbo actuator is good for the longer term if you want to keep the stock turbo (250 bhp is probably enough on the road really).

The Eibachs are nicer than the stocks (was my first change), I think Mountune is lower at the rear than mine but tbh I am fine with it and it is cheaper! I did also put Superpro bushes in as my rears were gone and that is a nicer mod too

Get some security as soon as you buy one, Viper 106v, disklock and a tracker, those should be enough. My only advice, having been stung by having one stolen last year.

Ok ITG kit is on. The car feels better on pick-up and the induction noises are really nice!

I noticed that the standard exhaust is quiet and having done some research I am thinking of buying a 3" Scorpion resonated cat back exhaust. It is what Jamie from officially gassed had on his ST and sounds perfect: https://youtu.be/G4nBkLjfGE0?t=598 (he is running a sports cat and higher stage of tune, but still).

My understanding is the resonated one doesn't have any motorway drone - which is important. Once this is done, the plan is to book in for the CP2E map and have actuator fitted. I may get an intercooler, but as we are heading into winter, I may wait until next summer for that.

I have the Milltek Race Non-Res Exhaust on and there's no drone at all and still plenty of noise over 3k RPM, I love it! Scorpions and Cobras are a bit louder I believe.

Intercooler is really an advisable upgrade for heat soak - my engine bay gets plenty toasty so every little helps. I believe the Mk8 Intercooler is much beefier than the Mk7 ones because it was a bit weedy...

With the comfort aspect of the Recaros, I struggled a bit at first as I have a wide back, I am 6 ft and 15 and a bit stone but my shoulders and back are kind of at the limit of what will fit between the bolsters.

Otherwise, car going well, left it with my dad whilst we were on holiday and he gave it a really good clean, my attentions had been diverted to a Toyota Hilux I had been getting ready for sale so mine was a lot dirtier than usual.

Not much to report, moved the front tyres to the back as they have had a hard life and with the additional camber and track day are wearing a bit unevenly.

Ordered some new front disk and pads, just gone for a set of eBay slotted disks and Mintex pads as the Yellowstuff ones I put on in April are dead and the disks rumble a bit.

Went with a cheaper option as considering a big brake kit but not sure how much you need to spend, will do another track day in the new year and the braes were a bit of a weak link last time, ok, but it was borderline.

Would like a slightly quieter exhaust, anyone got any suggestions, current is a mongoose.

Milltek? I tihnk they are a smaller bore than the mongoose though - not sure what your turbo would think of that

Happy milltek non-res customer here.
with the rear seat delete and boot carpet out it’s the perfect amount of noise internally without being obnoxious outside. would be intrigued to try the resonated version to see how extra quiet it is biggrin

Yeah, I had a Mountune one on it before, which had to be changed when it had the turbo and other work, apparently it was, where it stepped down from the 3 inch cat to the 2.5 inch exhaust pushing the exhaust backwards and glowing white under power which probably isnt great.

Might just be it needs a 3 inch exhaust to flow that much gas, and 3 inch exhausts are pretty noisy, but then luxury cars have big exhausts and arent, might be a case of taking it to an exhaust fabricator and seeing what they can do.

Milltek is 2.75 inch and good up to 320 BHP ish before it starts impacting flow and power .

Noise with the Res non Race ( the quite one ) and de cat is only just over stock noise wise and is around 85 dB .

Three year update,

Due an oil change and was going to do it this weekend but remembered I need to fit a baffled sump if going to do any more track days so have ordered one today and will defer the oil change until thats here, saves dropping the oil again to fit it.

Still planning to keep it, its such fun, had a Cayman owner attach himself to my bumper on the bypass the other day, thought why not and gave it a squirt in second and third, result being one miffed Porsche driver, best bit was had getting on for 180 kilos of building materials in the boot ! Couple of tries and then he realised it was a bit pointless.

Plan is to make it a bit more suitable for track use and get something else, nearly bought a Jag XJ a couple of months back but it wasnt the right one, but think its what I want, but cant really justify the high VED for a V8 if I have two cars with two lots of insurance so will likely be a 3.0 diesel, want something for longer trips that isnt a Fiesta (we have two) and isnt noisy/hard riding like mine. VED is like £740 vs 240, which pays for the insurance.

Then, and the baffled sump is the start of it, add a few more bits to the ST so it works better on track, i.e. get a set of track tyres for my spare wheels, some bigger front brakes and maybe look at coilovers. Want it to still work as a road car and not turn it into a complete PITA, but it matters less if its more compromised if I have a big comfy barge the rest of the time. So might whip the rear seats out and do some other lightening, but only stuff that is reversible. No more power planned as I reckon its about right.

I used to enjoy blasting up and down the bypass years ago as well. I remember an Impreza Turbo keeping up with me once in the Cerbera on there, and I remember me wondering what the hell he'd done to it! It was quick that was for sure.

It is great to hear that you're still really enjoying it. thumbup

Nice! Let me know how they perform. I think if I was keeping the Fiesta long term (like you, I'm a sucker for a nice Jaaag) I'd stick a BBK on of some kind. Were the AR1s particularly expensive to get? Some people seemed to have supply issues.

Not ordered the tyres just yet, still deciding on NS2Rs, AR1s, Toyos and whatever. AR1s might be overkill, with the NS2Rs can prob leave them on over summer at least.

The brake kit was just over £1500, went back to the advert on SICO and its gone up £380 since I ordered yesterday morning ?

https://www.sico-developments.co.uk/collections/20...

I have an order form with the original price so not sure whats going on there.

The reviews I see for NS2Rs seem pretty good for what they are so might be worth it!
