I suppose a modified Pinto is the obvious choice for a 200 FHC.

But I'd be tempted if I could find a Cosworth 24V V6, or a 2.8 Turbo like the ones Turbo Technics did in XR4is!

I don't think a. Cosworth V6 would fit in there. The early chassis rails are very tight.

A Cologne turbo appeals but they seam a bit fragile when boosted. Maybe a wee whoosh to 200hp would be fine?

Hi Tasmin200

Just been catching up with this thread, very motivating !

I own one of the 45 or so 200 convertibles so have read your thread with interest, I still have the original 2.0 pinto engine and the car is nice and original so won't do anything drastic - Weber carbs probably, but any cheap suggestions welcome, it is rather slow !

Funny how i see differences in yours, the temp gauge is different for example, good old TVR.

Any idea where the chassis number is ? I have no plate on the inner wings so presume its stamped somewhere.

Regards

All the usual tweaks would work, ported head, larger valves, mild cam, 40's or 45's and a good 4-2-1 tubular manifold should be good for 150BHP. There's loads of information on Turbosport forum. None of it cheap though...

I'd look for an injection head and second hand cam and carb's. If you're in no hurry just pick up parts when the come up at the right price. Don't go for a 38 DGAS carb as you're better off with the original 32/36. Check out Penguin Motors on YT. He's the man you need. https://www.youtube.com/@PenguinMotors/playlists

I believe they are on the off side cross member upright near the main chassis rail. I've never found mine...

Interesting you mention the injection head for the Pinto: I put one on my RS2000 years ago to convert it to unleaded, it came off a Mk3 Granada. I did have an idea to fit a 38DGAS too, but perhaps just a rebuild of the original 32/36 after I sort out a leak from the petrol inlet pipe. I'd keep the original manifold on mine though as it's a special 'RS' casting (saw one for sale at the NEC recently for £550 yikes ) so I don't know whether this would nullify any other upgrades, though I think I'll just keep it standard anyway.

I meant to comment previously about the lovely job you've done on the suspension parts. beer

The injection head is supposed to flow a bit better than the standard one. How much I don't know. The prices for RS parts and cars now is out of hand but I believe the RS2000 manifold is decent and emulates a 4-2-1 tubular manifold.

Just going to second the advice to check out Penguin Motors on YT.

Clearly knows his stuff with Pintos and has a lovely no-nonsense approach - “test it” , basically.

Some great video comparisons of the same engine on the dyno with, say, different carbs. Pretty sure 32/36 vs DGAS vs DCOEs is one of them.

Lovely TVR btw, OP

Spring is just around the corner so I got my finger out and got working on the Tasmin. Suspension rebuild complete, throttle pedal now at a decent level with an easily replaced Sierra cable. New carb linkage made and breather system installed.

I'm just in from a small drive and initial feeling is positive. I'll need to sort out the alignment and damper adjustment.

It's certainly sitting better on the new front springs.

I've done a tad more procrastination. Rather than tackling the electrical issues I recovered the bottom of the door cards. It took 18 samples of beige to get something suitable. It's not perfect but better than the filthy skinned teddy bear that was on there previously.

There are quite a few bits to be recovered as well as fitting a carpet.

I'm so happy to get the headlight pods working, Electrical workings aren't my forte. I wouldn't have stood a chance without a Pistonheaders personal website. So much good information on there if anyone needs it!

Tomorrow's mission is to get all the lights fitted up and working then there will be no curfew for fun!

I went to a local cars & coffee meeting yesterday morning. There was a Cerbera and a Tuscan but no other Wedges. It was a great day with a good turnout.

Cheers, the Wedge shape is starting to look better these days isn't it?

New tyres today. It stings a bit to throw away new looking tyres but they're 15 years old and rock hard. Not good for the wet!

Getting Toyo Proxes Comforts fitted as they got a good review in the Auto Express test

Re the 2.8 cologne.
On my old capri, I had mine converted to a 3.2l long stroke, using the 2.9 cossie crankshaft, new pistons. Check the crank clears the oild pump, I had to have a little grind on mine to allow it to clear.

There was someone who took it further, to 3.5l

Used to be Specialised Engines LTD did various conversions

Edit:

Seems about right. I seem to remember 196bhp and 248ft lbs torque on my 3.1

I'm a real fan of wedge style design, more so since reading Olive Winterbottom's fantastic book.

I had a ST162 Celica that I loved when I was younger, a very angular car.

I like that your car doesn't have the side skirts, prettier without them in my opinion smile

That would be amazing, food for thought.

New boots today, hopefully there should be less squeaky bum moments in the wet.

Got them fitted and went for a decent 80 mile drive. It's feeling pretty good and will hopefully get better when I align the wheeis.
