I really love this car, as mentioned before. I also love the idea of fixing the wheel spacers while you have a blowing exhaust and leaking rocker cover.
I remember those days of 'modding' a car on a budget very fondly, but almost wish I'd spent as much time on maintenance as I did on mods.
Thank you, certainly love it myself! Seen a few been scrapped recently with the whole ULEZ shenanigans. I remember those days of 'modding' a car on a budget very fondly, but almost wish I'd spent as much time on maintenance as I did on mods.
Yes maybe i could be more selective in my approach to where money is being spent.
When i first got it, it would leave two cup sized spots on the floor. Those gaskets that came off were mostly silicone. However yes, it's something i will sort out soon as it would be nice to reduce my oil consumption.
And the exhaust is just a slight blow now. I'll rectify this one before the MOT in November.

Thank you! Great colour combination/engine. Any photos?? I think that's a very fair reason to sell a B5.
I might have some somewhere, I did a full on audio install in it, focal utopia components up front, Phase Linear aliante 12" sub in a spherical sub enclosure mounted in a perspex shelf in the spare wheel well, Alpine V12 Amp for the fronts, VIBE monobloc for the sub and an Alpine CDA 7969 HU to drive it all very happy days in that car.simon_harris said:

Sounds pretty fantastic. V12 amp is a must and that is an absolutely awesome head unit!! Not especially, I actually bought a second V12 and the super rare bridging piece to make the two amps look like one with an idea to do an install in the Skyline that never really got done. The 7969 needs a new ribbon cable though oddly they are easier to source now than they were at the time it was a current model!
The V12's and the monobloc could probably do with a service before trying to use them and I have my dream amp in my current daily (Genesis 5 channel) so probably aren't really worth anything at all.
The fronts stayed with the car when I sold it and the boot build was sold and eventually ended up in a corsa I think

Just checking in to see if this has been lowered yet..
Nooo. That's on my list of things i want to do but can't afford/justify. Along with supersprint headers Mind currently as it sits, the front lip clears most 'normal' curbs. So as of now i have yet to properly batter it.
Very minor updates.
There's a recall out on Audi's from around the 2000 era pertaining to airbags. '69BT' recall. The ignitor and sometimes bags seem to fail, another of the takata saga.
I was a little nervous contacting Audi main dealer as never previously dealt with them and generally thought they'd have no time for my 25 year old leaky, noisy shed.
Got it booked in, everyone was very polite. Great.
Turn up on the day, automatic door rolls open (number plate recognition, ooooo), pull in, step out the car - "Good morning Mr. P". Blimey could get used to this! Offered coffee etc and asked to have a seat whilst they deal with some paper work. Someone from the service department comes over and talks with me, gives a rough run down of what's going happen. Also asks if i want complimentary car cleaning and a health check.
I muttered about ignoring the leaking exhaust and cracking to ZV7s but knowing what % the rear pads were at would be fantastic.
I'm informed to come back at 5pm to collect the vehicle.
Upon arrival to collect there is a slight delay, something about a systems issue. But again everyone very friendly and welcoming. Comes back to paperwork. Tyres apparently aren't as bad as i thought. Rear pads are only 50% worn and that's about the only thing of note, other then the driver igniter being replaced.
Car is nice and clean in and out. Certainly no more pink on the exterior then it has been in the past.
Over all, incredibly satisfied with the service from the main dealer. If i had money to waste i would absolutely take it their for future work. Alas renting and both the car and myself liking a drink means no spare funds to throw at Audi.
I've also purchased some polybush in a tube to remedy the rear gearbox mount. This is supposedly one of the reasons for drive train shunting. I would buy a replacement but all i can see are performance versions at £300+ or used OEM units for £150. So just gonna fill mine in and see how we go. Will also address the exhaust leak as it's the same area. And get new tyres next weekend as well. Set of Eagle F1's.

I'm still waiting for the "And a set of Eibachs to fit" post..
My E46 went to BMW for 2 airbag recalls and to be fair a similar experience. No, to my knowledge/to my face, snootiness or laughing at it..
Who says i haven't done it and have been in fact hiding this information? My E46 went to BMW for 2 airbag recalls and to be fair a similar experience. No, to my knowledge/to my face, snootiness or laughing at it..
No, do not fear. For whenever they are purchased - i will post in here and make sure you are informed!
I suspect out in the garages they were all pointing and laughing at it.
I've also started a mk2 MR2 fund. Because... i don't punish myself enough as it is.
A few little things to the lazer Rosa wagon this week.
My plastics and leather were looking a little grubby, and had heard that these 3m wipes were fantastic for removing human remnants and other dirt off of
these. I didn't think to take any before photos as i was chatting to a mate in the process. However, afterwards...
Any simple solutions to fixing the missing rubbery paint from door trims? I've heard of an elusive liquid which you apply with a sponge and is meant to just blend it all together but can't for the life of me remember what it is called.
Over the weekend, drove up to Kent to see a buddy and saw an average of 38Mpg. With the looming MOT, this was the ideal time to grab some very good partworns off someone we know. The car has shod its ZV7s, which had more cracks in it than Boris Johnsons excuses for having parties during the ol' pandemic. And in place has got 4 Eagle F1's - which i have been keen to get for a while.
They're wildly better feeling than the previous rubber, road noise is better and with a much sharper turn in.
The fine chap also took the time to remove any corrosion from inside the wheels, so i now have 4 wheels that hold air. And also removed all the weights and balanced them up properly. Which took out a vibration on the rear axle.
Having 4 matched tyres with tread depth has also reduced the drivetrain shunting - a friend who has an S4 had mentioned this but i didn't fully believe him. How i was proved wrong!
Next on the agenda is to seal the exhaust up. Rocker cover gasket has slipped down the list a little as with the recent oil change, leakage has reduced.
I suspect rear pads will be an advisory so will get some ordered too. But i might wait and see if there's anything that requires greater attention.

Had Eagle F1's on my 2.8 Quattro facelift, never driven anything with more grip than that. You could plant it in a roundabout in the pouring rain and it wouldn't break away, currently on the hunt for a sub £800 sheddy B5. Got my eye on a crash damaged 2.6 Avant atm for £500 and a hibiscus red 1.8 up at £900, I think the pre facelift looks far better and has those nicer exterior door handles.

Haven't had the chance to fully explore the grip but the feedback is definitely that of being very positive! I would suggest avoiding the 2.6! Gutless bloody ABC lump. You're better off with a 2.4. There's a tidy ish looking one down my way (dorset) for well under a grand with MOT till march.
I like a mix of bits between face and pre.
Let us know if you purchase anything.

Had my F1/s fitted to my ST170 for 4 years now, got some dry cracking but still grip spot on. Took a while to bed in though, will be replaced with PilotSports next year. 2.6 isn't my ideal engine but at £500 and only minor crash damage it's worth a look
Can't be worse dry cracking then the ZV7s I see your point! Good luck with your B5 hunt
The car has fought today, the car has won and delayed the MOT.
Unfortunately last week, the right cat failed. And has been rattling around. Just before the MOT. Arse. Sounding somewhere between a N/a 3 cylinder and a VR5. Unpleasant to say the least.
Today, it went to my mechanic to get this swapped out with a new cat and the bd Lambda sensor decided to become a push fit sensor. And with no possibility to get a new one today, it's missed its MOT slot.
We have a new one on order at around £100. Unsure if any other work has been done that was spoken about (rear pads, diff oil etc) but initial pre-check is looking good.
Thankfully, as planned we did the work 10 days earlier in case this happened. So tomorrow, new sensor, new cat, seal exhaust with mikalor clamps. And then MOT next week. And hopefully we can stop spending money on it for the rest of the year....
