Engine bay plastics all treated now. CarPro Pearl (for the cleaning freaks).

All the interior leather cleaned and protected this morning too (303 Leather Cleaner then 303 Leather Conditioner).

Next job is to get it up on axel stands and get the wheels off. Pair of front MPS4S and drop the lot off to get the wheels refurbished. New OEM centre caps and new OEM bonnet and tailgate badge.
Tailgate struts have seen better days so they’ll be getting swapped too.

It seems to have full BMW history and regular oil changes. No sound at all from cold. I’ll be getting it remapped. Emailed Rick at Unicorn but he doesn’t touch these earlier cars any more. Might be a trip across to Kenny at Motorsport Developments in Blackpool instead. I know he has a great reputation and been in the business for many years.

Unless you can recommend another good mapper.

Check this pipe. Most of them leak, cheap from BMW:

That's not too bad then pal smile

I've heard good things about Kenny; same with King Customs too: https://en-gb.facebook.com/kingcustomfabrication/

They did the back box delete for me on the E39 and they're good guys & seem to know their stuff...

What about the likes of Celtic Tuning?

As for alloy refurb; can't remember where you are exactly but I'd highly recommend Sam at Tillings in Longton thumbup

My identical 320D is down on power - that likely candidate? Feels like there isn't much boost until 2K, it pulls cleanly but without much power - not sure how to diagnose on these cars!

I don’t think that pipe usually causes a power loss. Vacuum pipes however often split and can cause power loss.

I don’t want to derail the op’s thread!

Looks like a good by.

I saw that he was thinking of selling it on one of his other threads. I like the E91, I think it’s my favourite shape of this era of 3 series. This one looks grand in white on those wheels. Interior has scrubbed up well.

It does look good. Our family car is an alpine white “sport plus” E91 runout and it’s taken a beating over the last six years and from 30-80k miles and (apart from recent power dip) it’s been comfortable and reliable

I’ll give MD a call tomorrow, see what they say.

I’m just outside Wigan. I’ll get Wheelrite to do these ones. He’s done all my other sets and they have all been perfect. He lives local too so he doesn’t mind me dropping them off at his house. Easier than trying to get to Chorley before 5pm during the week.

Yup. Stevies a good guy. Does great work too. Tililings is more local for me, a bit cheaper too. But that’s because I’ve had about 8 sets done via Sam now laugh

Wow - that was quite a trip!

But a long drive home does let you get a good feel for your new purchase.

My first two BMWs were 4 cylinder turbo-diesels for business use reasons and they were great, especially my 123d.

Enjoy your E91.

That looks great.

How does one go about cleaning the engine bay? My old Discovery could do with a spruce up but I'm always nervous about doing more damage than good so have never given it a go.

I always do it when the engine bay is cold. I use a pump sprayer with an APC (all purpose cleaner). Liberally soak it first, then let it dwell for a few minutes. Then I go over all the areas with a soft detailing brush. Once I’ve brushed everywhere, it gets jet washed off. Just make sure the end of the lance is 1-2ft away from everything and you’ll be ok.

I also have BCS Automotive making me an exhaust for it. Not a fan of the factory oval one. Be ready in December.

Look forward to following this, your Legacy was on my shortlist for a not-so-sensible family car, and this is higher up for being more sensible. Any good resources for understanding reliability with these engines vs say a LCI 330d?
