Thanks, Bobbers.

smile

I won't be running it at Senna Pod, but I'd go to see you run the Cooper S.

Thanks for sharing the below. So, I have a facelift 2001 SLK 200K with the space saver wheel (and 16" alloys). The door / compartment on my boot floor is not secured. When I grab the handle the whole frame around the trap door comes up. On closer isnpection it seems relatively crudely cut up. Nothing to secure to that I've noted.

This is weird as Mercrdes typically are good on the details (just look at that sealent compartment your car comes with in those pics!). My car is a 1 previous owner otherwise immaculate thing, so don't think its been messed with at all.

Just curious as to what others spare tyre trap door setup is like (what an odd query....!)?

As you age, the scope of your restoration projects diminishes. It's a bit sad, but I was quite chuffed with restoring the boot contents of the SLK32.

This is how it was in 2020 when I bought it:

Excuse the delay, Riccardo.

It's one piece in Mrs C's 98 SLK230.

I was going to have a moan about the flimsy handle then I realised it has survived for 25 years so it must be up to the job.

No problem at all! I think that there are several designs to it. Not sure if it depends on the options specified (with/out spare) or on pre/post restyling.

All I know mine looks different, with a hatch over the wheel, as opposed to the whole carpet floor lifting up. If it wasn't 1k miles away parked in Italy I'd take a picture!

The mystery continues...

Twenty five years old today.

Yes, it's the same picture, but the car is in the garage and I'm in my pyjamas.

Lovely colour, always had a soft spot for these., I'd have one liie a shot. Sadly a 2 seater just wouldn’t be a fit for our life.

We acquired this instead.

Ooh, I remember promising to post pics of the interior and I didn't. Mrs C's has the two-tone grey interior. There was a really exaggerated colour scheme with a name I've forgotten. Probably best avoided.

How far apart are we? We're in Newbury. I could add to your woes by bringing it over and convincing Mrs Positronic she needs one. They're really good value at the moment.

Very kind of you, but we're in Stratford-Upon-Avon. If we get serious I'll definitely be in touch (2 weeks ago it was a white mk2 GTI convertible on bangers and cash)

You had better buy an SLK before Bangers and Cash reach the DB7.

Wow. Time to buy a DB7 - Keith Helfet's Jaguar masterpiece with Ian Callum getting too much credit.

Off Topic there, Dicky?

A bit, yes.

hehe

Nooooo still too expensive, used cars (in good order) need to be sub £5k, new ones I'll go up to £10k. I met Ian Callum once, he said something interesting about an ignition switch.
