Civic Type R FN2 Track Car
Discussion
Next up on the weight saving plan was the removial of the full air con system .
The system i was advised when i got the car needs a re gas so most likely has a leak somewhere in the system and as i never tend to use the AC on my cars it was planed to be removed .
First was to gain access to the condenser and remove this so the top part of the bumper needs removing .
And removed .
Then it was on to the compressor to be removed .
And all the Air con system removed .
The compressor has a weight of 8.2 Kg
the condenser and pipes , brackets etc has a weight of 6.5 Kg
So the total Air con system removed saves 14.7 Kg
The only other thing that needed doing was to change the Aux belt to a shorter non air con unit .
The old air con belt needed changing anyway as it was looking a little bit tired .
New Aux belt .
Old and new belts .
And finally all installed .

Next up to be done on the car was to look to remove the rear seats in preparation for the roll cage to be installed .
The rear seats are in lovely condition but they need to go .
And then removed .
I have taken out the front seats to give me more room and to test fit a bucket seat that i will have as a bolt in bolt option for track days .
And the rear seats removed .
The total parts removed from the rear are below .
Rear seat lower bench
Rear seat lower bench bracket
Rear seat upper bench
Seat belts
Seat belt brackets
Rear matts
The total rear seats etc has a weight of 44.2 Kg .
Total removed from the car so far .
Air con system 14.7 Kg
Exhaust system 5.3 Kg
Race battery 9.7 Kg
Rear seats 44.2 Kg
Total 73.9 Kg

Love to see it, really interesting to see the weight saved as well. Looks like the original floor mats there as well!
Yes original floor mats but the drivers one has a hole in it so that will need scrapping or replacing .The car has a weight of 1,267 Kg so it would be good to try and get this under 1,150 Kg but im nut sure that would be that easy but we will see .

I've just had a good browse of these in the classifieds. If you don't mind a few miles then there are some good value cars out there.
Where there any factory fitted LSDs to the uk spec cars?
From memory the ‘Championship White’ edition cars did, but they were the only models thus-equipped from factory. Not sure if they a complete DC5 gearbox including the DC5 ratios, or if it was just the same LSD setup. Where there any factory fitted LSDs to the uk spec cars?
I've owned a 2008 FN2 for 8 years, almost completely standard except for a K&N panel filter, Ferodo DS2500 brake pads and an Android double din headunit. They are great cars, quite practical and also fun when the mood takes you. Mine has just done over 100k and apart from wear and tear parts it's been faultless. The engines really are bomb proof if looked after.
I had to replace the drive shafts at around 90000 miles as the passenger side broke just pulling out of a side road. They are a weak point as there is a rubber balancer half way down that collects water underneath it which gradually corrodes the shaft so it's worth checking them. I replaced them both for £200 a pair (non OEM without the rubber balancer).
Cars manufactured from April 2010 onwards came with the LSD as standard, if you want an LSD car just make sure it isn't manufactured before this date in 2010 as it won't have an LSD.
I'd love to keep mine forever and turn it into a track car but I need to sell it soon as we don't have the space and need another more practical car.

The next part of the car i have focused on is to renew the fuel system starting with the fuel filter and fuel pump .
First was to get to the fuel filter and fuel pump that is below the centre console and is an in tank style .
Old fuel filter .
Old fuel pump .
New Honda fuel filter and fitter kit .
I took the chance to upgrade the fuel pump from the OEM spec to a Sytec 340 Ltr/hr unit .
I also ordered a new FPR .
And the new fuel filter and fuel pump assembled .
Installed .
