Great to see some shots of the car after all the detailed parts images!

I'll be really interested in your feedback on the coilovers, as they are on a shortlist for my BMW 3 series.

Looking good. Also interested in the coilovers, see if they improve the ride.

At this rate the next update will be a frank build. K20 head on a k24 bottom end. With supporting mods should see it up around 260-300hp. Go on you know you want to.

Probably been asked before (sorry!) but have you considered changing the wheels for a lighter model? The OEM ones are mega heavy! I'd imagine that would make a nice difference on track?

I have only driven the car a few miles so far with the new coilover suspension set up but seems good still a firm ride but with the edge taken off on full soft front and rear .

I will report back when i have some more miles driven on them .

Ha Ha i have all ready looked in to this but for the cost a supercharger conversion is only a bit more money for 350 / 400 BHP and a chunk more torque .

Plans for the car are below .

2024 = Mid to end of year upgrade the transmission on the car with wavetrac LSD , light weight flywheel , new clutch and a shorter 5.4 M factory final drive and Honda Accord longer 6th gear .

2025 = Full breathing upgrades that include RRC inlet manifold , 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and de cat , 3 inch exhaust system , full CAI intake that sits behind the front bumper , DC Drop in cams and a live rolling road remap .

2026 = Supercharger upgrade or Frank conversion TBC

Had a think about lightweight wheels but i need 18 to fit over the big brake conversion and looking at something like Team Dynamic pro race 1.2 i would only save around 1 Kg per wheel and as i plan to run two sets of wheels ( One dry set with semi slick tyres and one wet set with PS4 ) i will most likely go with another OEM set of the FN2 wheels as they are not much money and the fitment will be the same for both sets .

On the home straight now with getting this car finished so another MOT is booked in for the 08/03/2024 and then a basic alignment booked in for the 22/03/2024 .

The last few things to get done were the below .

Engine flush and oil and filter change ( I will be running a slightly thicker 5W-50 oil for the track ) .

Then a gearbox oil change ( again I will be running a thicker 75W-90 for track )

Then to finish a new towing eye .

With all the last few bits done i have booked a track day at Bedford today for the 29/03/2024 .

It is a novice only track day so I may be being a bit cheeky as I have done a few track days but my reasoning is that the last time I was on track was in October 2021 so will be a bit ring rusty .

Many thanks and yes its been a long time coming but rest assured there will be lots more titivating to be done to this car !!!!

Looking forward to it but not been on track for well over two years so my very small and limited talent that i built up will be long gone i think .

Remind me again what does an Apex look like smile

You’ll do fine. Build up to it. Slow in, fast out. Plenty of breaks. Enjoy some passenger rides. Quit while you’re ahead.

Can’t wait to hear about it.

Words for us both to live by!

Got the PH hillclimb next month, then a two-date event at Anglesey in June - but need to book some more!

Bit behind on updating this but the next part for the car was to get a second set of FN2 Enkei wheels to run some semi slick tyres for a dry track and then keep the other wheels for a wet set / road set .

Some nice second hand wheels came up for sale that were in good condition and had been resprayed in a Anthracite colour so they were ordered .

Second set of wheels .

Then tested fitted to the car .

I was thinking about some lighter wheels but that would mean getting two sets so the stock FN2 units will do for now .

I suddenly feel like I need to read this from start to finish... Had a skim through so far and it looks like a proper weapon now. If my silver car does become a car I'm going to keep for a fair while I wouldn't mins taking it down the track car route but time will tell.

Many thanks it is getting there but still have a lot of upgrades still to install on the car to get it to how i want it to be .

Your silver one looks very nice and if i read it right was it Paul Wests old car ?

He is on my list to go and see to have a few bits done as i keep on hearing good things about TPW .

So at long last the car and me have had our first track day with out too many issues .

The track days was at Bedford last Friday and the last time i was on track at Goodwood 3 years ago things did not go entirely to plan smile

The day before the track day the cars were loaded up ready for the day .

I have spent just over a year getting the car ready and have changed lots of parts on the car so was very happy that there should not be any mechanical problems and the only week link may be the driver .

I also have only driven the car twice since buying it so there would have to be a (getting to know you) done on the drive there and on track as i did plan on driving the car the week before but work dashed that plan .

Bedford from Arundel is around a three hour drive so we set off at 3.30 AM and then 2 miles down the road this flashed up on the dash .

Sods law this would happen now but i thought i could take a look at this when we get there but not a great start .

The drive there was fine but lacked traction control and ABS but we made good time and got to Bedford and parked up and unloaded .

A few pics of the track .

The one thing i forgot to take with me was my code reader but after asking a few people and a google search a faulty ABS sensor is most of the time the problem so it looked like for the day i would be with out traction control ( no bother as i always turn this off anyway ) and no ABS mmmmmm not ideal but i should be able to manage .

At this point it started raining so the lack of ABS on a wet track with a car i don’t know was a touch unsettling but we will have to play the cards im are delt .

Next was noise testing and the car was at 87 DB so no problems .

Having a quick look around the carpark there were some lovely cars that would be out on track .

Then on to the briefing and we were ready to do a few sighting laps but spent too long faffing around so missed them .

It was then time for session one and my first time back on track in 3 years so a mix of excitement and nerves were aplenty .

The track had dried up a bit so i bolted on the AR1 tyres , set the coilovers to 15 clicks front and 5 clicks rear ,checked all the fluids and we were good to go .

After getting the tyres up to temperature and remembering the track layout i had great fun if a bit on the cautious side with very early braking and taking things easy .

Session 1.1

Session 1.2
https://youtu.be/2llf0q48m1E

Session Rear 1.1
https://youtu.be/MjAoWMFAIdQ

Session Rear 1.2
https://youtu.be/gkEg3X5zGks

After a cool down and coffee it was time for session two but the rain was back so i was even more cautious on the AR1 tyres . I know they would be fine as there was not loads of water but just wanted to take it ease for my first track day even tho i could have pushed a bit harder .

Session 2.1
https://youtu.be/7J5U2PRiOwY

Session 2.2
https://youtu.be/fXXzuQpXOLI

Session Rear 2.1

Session Rear 2.2
https://youtu.be/-Q8vUdR6DWs

The second problem of the day was that the Go pro batteries had all died ( I have not used them in years so they are finished and need replacing ) so i could not get any more videos of the other sessions but the track was dry again after lunch and had a few more great sessions and started to get back to a respectable pace for me at least .

Apart from the ABS and traction control issue the car did not miss a beat all day only needed a small top up of oil and some fuel .

The drive home was a 4 hour affair as there was traffic but there were no issues with the car and it was a nice if long drive back .

An overview of the car below with some thoughts on what is good and what needs changing .

Handling was very natural and just to my liking with very little understeer and very little oversteer and a very crisp turn in . The coilovers felt great and the extra camber at the front and rear helped with the balance . The AR1 tyres were amazing as normal . The car needs to have a full Geo set up done and corner weighting and then it will be perfect and the biggest part missing from the car is a LSD as it is crying out for one .

The K20 engine is a thing of joy not overly powerful and lacking torque but makes up for this with glorious revs all 8400 of them on stock tune and does not feel too pedestrian in a straight line .

The brakes i did not use to there full but the Megane MK3 Brembo and 345 mm discs felt very powerful and will be one of the best things on the car . The Winmax W6.5 pads were good but i may swap them out for some EBC XPR pads as they were mega on my old Fiesta ST .

The gearshift was utterly amazing and just so perfect with feel and precision as i did not miss a gear all day and is such a joy to use .

The engine temps were all fine and the max coolant temps on track were 89 deg and oil temps were a max of 102 deg so the large radiator is doing its job well .

The car is very different to how my old Fiesta St was and nowhere near as quick but i think it will be just as much fun and it will be great to learn the car and upgrade it on going to make it better .

So to sum up the day was fantastic and it was great to get back on track after too long off and as a bonus i did not bin the car this time smile

Next stop will be to book Lydden Hill for the 11/05/24 and i cant wait to get the car back on track .
