Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF
Discussion
Beautiful car.
A photo of the engine bay in case anyone wanted to see it. 13 degree V4 canted over at 45 degrees. Twin cams, a pair of twin choke 42mm Solex carbs and a five speed dog leg gearbox.
The quality of castings on a Fulvia are way better than a mid-70's Ferrari in my view. Even though these were very expensive cars when new, Lancia didn't make any profit.....

That looks awful. A person of your calibre shouldn't be seen dead in that. My philanthropic nature requires me to offer to take that off your hands, purely to help.
That is extremely kind of you but I couldn't possibly burden you with a car that will consume time and money. Of course, I could pay you your projected expenses to ameliorate the impact, but then we'd spoil our relationship with something approaching a commercial transaction :-)It is dilemma, though!

Unlike the quality of steel - you reminded me of my Beta Coupe - though yours looks fantastic from the pictures.

Back in about 1982 I worked in Bury St Edmunds and one of my junior staff had one of these.
SHE, for she was a she, was Polish and loved the car, and I had a ride or two in it, going to see clients.
The thing I think I remember about it was that the gearbox was at the rear, and so the gears were backwards, with 2 and 4 up and 1 and 3 down on the lever.
Or maybe I imagined all that?

I am seriously tempted by one of these as a classic as:
- ULEZ exempt
- gorgeous
- may just fit into my tiny London garage.
However, the rust thing puts me off, as I k ow that they were prone to it. Given that I have young children (and thus little spare time), I would prefer a turnkey, restored one with little to do except tinker. So I have not yet been brave enough. I shall follow this with interest.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm definitely looking forward to the day it lands. Personally I like the colour, mainly because the thought the engineers were in charge of this project and when finished someone asked about colours and they said it doesn't make it go any better so leave it in primer. Of course, that is a thought that is only in my head :-). It isn't an original colour, I think the original colour was metallic silver.
Mutley - nice pic of the 1.6 Zagato!
I love the colour as it is, looks great!Mutley - nice pic of the 1.6 Zagato!
Morning all! Thanks for the comments, I'll try to update as and when there is news. The car was moved at the end of the week from the sellers' place and is en route to NY area. It will go into a 20ft container for the ocean carriage although these things I am told take longer (and seems more expensive!) than one would expect.
In terms of rust, personally I think the reputation for rust is now meaningless, because all these cars are 50-odd years old so what matters more is the condition of what is original and the quality of repairs. Harry F, I think you could use one regularly and it is certainly small.. I'd avoid salty roads as I would in any old car.
Skeeterm5 - in terms of a left hooker from the US, it is really about availability, condition and cost. Overall there were from memory about 145k Fulvia Coupes made. Of those I think about 5k 1.6HF series 2 cars and about 1250-odd S1 1.6 HF cars. Of that 1250-odd I recall about 30 were imported to the UK. Some of them have rusted/crashed/been rallied. So tiny numbers are left, especially if you want a non-rally version. The S1 1.6HF (Fanalone) is the one they rallied and the most collectible.
There is the freight and import duty to factor in but the LHD bit also doesn't bother me, I've had many LHD cars and am used to swapping.
