Thanks chaps, T6Vanman, it's a Mini, not a BMW nono.................or at least that's what i tell myself to sleep at night!!! smile
Turn7, oh don't worry, even if i have to throw a couple of grand at it, i'm sticking with it, i absolutely nailed it on the way to Minitopia, it is a lot of fun!!!!
Sorry to potentially spoil your sleeping but it is a BMW really!

Mrs Tidy bought a new R56 Cooper at the launch event in 2006 with enough options ticked to add 50% to the list price, but she still has it now and it's a hoot to drive. biggrin

Fair enough - just wait until you need to read fault codes and get quotes for parts prices! laugh

Most of those from what I have seen have a D on the back for Deutschland presumably aka BMW whistle

Daughter’s 116i needed new chain as the guides gave up and wanted to strangle the oil pick up. Cannot honestly say that I noticed a rattle. Simple enough job, just make sure to use a good quality kit.

The place doing the inspection are a Mini specialist, that's all they do, they're very well respected in the Mini community, and luckily not too far from us, whatever he comes back with today will either be put to the warranty company or be prioritised for a schedule of repairs, I knew when I bought it it was potentially going to be a money pit.

Great read

I have a countryman which is surprisingly good to punt down a country lane as well as being very comfortable on a long run

Re the stop/start I used Carly and coded it out, took just a moment and makes such a difference. I now have to press the toggle switch to “turn on” stop/start

In 6 years and 67k it’s been very reliable and almost fault free

At 4K it had to have a new clutch! and then the boot lock broke at about 50k and recently a spring snapped

But otherwise all good, love it

Look forward to seeing yours progress

Cheers Earthdweller!!

Well I've heard back about the health check...........

It's good news!!! The rattle isn't the timing chain, apparently there's nothing wrong with that, it's the water pump tensioner, but the DMF is fooked, and the air vent issue appears to be the controls for it and not the motors!!!

It is indeed, I just need to understand how to start the claim with them.

Well I've picked Ivor the Mini Cooper S Clubman up, he needs a new clutch and DMF for sure, the rattle is definitely the water pump tensioner and the timing chain has been given a clean bill of health!!!
Unfortunately the prices are a little eyewatering, £1150 for the clutch/DMF. £195 for the water pump tensioner, I enquired about a full service and all fluids changed, that's going to be around £525!!! yikes

I liked my Clubman Cooper S - the only only issue was (and apparently this is a common issue) the sunroof frown

That's why it's one of the few boxes Mrs Tidy didn't tick on her R56 order - A/C was a better idea!

if mine was anything to go by it'll work beautifully for a while after adjusting and then crap-out again - apparently, the cassette warps slightly. In truth, it didn't really matter to me as the aircon was great (as were the heated seats yikes ) and the extra light in the cabin was lovely

I've finally got around to removing the fitted dog guard that came with the car, if anyone wants it PM me, I believe it's a genuine Mini one.

We took him when we went shopping today, he really does make me smile!!

I'm not sure but I might still have a cargo cover for the clubman if you're interested (I'll have to check the garage as I've had a bit of a clearout)?

Very kind of you DodgyGeezer but I already have the cargo cover.
