I’m going to do the fluid change on the differentials & transfer case next week. Seems simple enough, the gearbox oil will need to wait for another time.
The transfer case is easy. The front and rear diffs are very limited on space for the fill plugs.

I bought low profile sockets specifically for this job and they still didn't fit. Suggest you get an extended length 8mm Allen wrench.

Yes I had read about that, any recommended ones to get?

I also want to get a manual hand pump thing to make it easier to fill.

Any issue with using that for the diffs?

Actually there’s a slightly more expensive limited slip diff gear oil, so I’ll go for that just in case.

I used this but only because I had lots of it already for my Impreza.

Not sure, probably unlikely but as LSD oil won’t hurt a standard diff it should be ok. Now to source some Mobil 3309 for the transfer case.

I got extra for flushing, as I doubt it’s been changed before.

On my 957 its 1.8 rear, 0.8 transfer and 1 litre front. I'll send you some useful websites when I'm home.

No doubt. I suggested as much in January. I expect the official Porsche workshop manual says remove the engine and how many man hours it takes and that's where they have their number from.

Yup I think they just followed the book, no shame in that but I’m glad I found an alternative.

Utterly waylaid by a cold this weekend, was looking forward to sorting these oil changes.

In the meantime I’m planning the road trip to the Porsche museum. I could take the tunnel but the harwich/rotterdam ferry seems a good option, overnight in a single cabin is only £60 more return. Get a good nights sleep and a shorter journey to Stuttgart and can swing by the ring on the way back.
