I like the idea of having low expectations and then being happily surprised. It has to be a better experience than the disappointment of a newer car that you expect to be great but let's you down.

Good luck OP 👍

What's the mileage on it?
It’s on 131k miles so just about run in…

Plan is that now we have it back at a baseline with a complete service and all fluids reaced:

Oil change every 3500 miles as these do suffer from fuel dilution of the oil

Gearbox oil change every 7000 miles

Transfer Box and Diff Oil every 14,000 miles

On top of the regular service schedule, this should keep her going for many more miles.

It’s one of those cars that’s just so ridiculous, but has so much grunt, that for lugging 5 people and all there stuff around in supreme comfort and with a great soundtrack, that it really gets under your skin

Thanks! Yeah I came to the conclusion many years ago that as long as I don’t mind the running costs, that’s it’s much more fun and conceivably less financial worry to run a big old bus like this, than something that would cost me 6 figures to purchase and the same big bills when they go wrong.

The other advantage of course is once they are a few years old collective knowledge lets you find ways to work on them yourself

I am considering buying one as we speak.

I have also had an E55 AMG - but for me I had no unexpected bills. Just tyres, brakes etc which to be fair were catastrophically expensive.

Am I insane? I have run a Lexus LS430 for two years and absolutely NOTHING has broken on it. I'm only looking for a new car as that has been written off. Should I just buy another Lexus and stop being daft? hehe

Luke.
