Blimey that was quick. Is it just the idrive screen left to fit?
Still need to do the wiring behind the steering wheel but once I get the tie rod replaced this afternoon it will be “drivable”. (No turn signals and wipers constantly on, might need to pull the fuse in the meantime)Gustavo7 said:

I don't think turn signals work on BMW's anyway so maybe it's just the wipers. MitchT said:
Looking at the spec and overall apparent condition you've bagged yourself an amazing car at an amazing price. I do hope the repair process is straightforward as it appears it might be.
Interested to know if the service history shows up once the replacement iDrive unit is plugged in. Not sure if the data is stored inside the unit itself or elsewhere, with the unit just acting as a monitor.
Should do; due a service now but otherwise OK:Interested to know if the service history shows up once the replacement iDrive unit is plugged in. Not sure if the data is stored inside the unit itself or elsewhere, with the unit just acting as a monitor.
History is on Kasio, the idrive display is just another view of this.

These were the parts I purchased so far:
+ Left Tie Rod assembly @ £92
Total of £1529.
The car sits at £9730 so far. Still need to pay the mobile mechanic (roughly £200)
Should be a complete running car for a tad less than £10k.
That's good going, about half the price of a non cat registered car. + Left Tie Rod assembly @ £92

Indeed! Near identical example on Autotrader: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404048...I buy most of my cars from Copart, the most recent one being a 2017 Touareg with 67k on the clock, repaired by myself and total cost (purchase/delivery/fees/repairs) is £10k all in. Yes it had forklift damage underneath but you have just got to factor it into your calcs...plastic undertray and fuel tank protector, no big deal!
Buying, repairing and running light damage cars gets me into nicer cars than I can ordinarily justify buying and in 2024 should be seen as environmentaly friendly....! It is not without risk though and for someone with a full time job can be a real headache fitting it around things, spending time hunting for used parts etc etc. Go in eyes wide open.
Looks like you got a good one, well done!

This is brilliant, you must be so pleased with yourself so far!
I am actually! It went as well as it could I guess. Also let me give a shoutout to:
https://www.roadtaxmartin.com/
As without him I wouldn’t be able to tax the car. (No V5 was given, had to apply for one)
Martin can tax your car without any documents. In this instance his £60 fee was greatly offset by the fact I could call the AA to replace my tie rod “free of charge” vs the cost of a mobile mechanic. I will also be able to drive the car now, instead of waiting up to 8 weeks for a V5 to be sent to me.
